Biography: Adam Dolbey Rule, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the age of 42 after a brave battle with brain cancer. He was born September 15, 1971 in Little Rock, where he lived his whole life. His parents are Beth and Paul Nyhus of Kensington, Maryland, and Herb Rule of Little Rock. Adam was a proud graduate of Little Rock Central High School, where he lettered in basketball. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and a received an MBA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After graduation, he worked in television broadcasting for KATV, managed media services at Arkansas Children?s Hospital, and then found his calling in telemedicine at UAMS. Devoted to bringing medical care to underserved areas, Adam was the project director for the South Central Telehealth Resource Center. He was honored by UAMS with the naming of the Adam Rule Center for Distance Health Training Center. In addition, he was honored this year by UAMS with the Staff Excellence Award in Education. Adam was a lifelong musician, playing Suzuki violin as a young child and then drums with various bands from high school until his death. He also loved tennis and golf, especially with his brothers and close friends. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, was his favorite vacation destination, where he enjoyed a special trip with his family in April. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and on various ministries. After he got sick, he continued to live with his mantra, ?What is lost? What is left? And what is possible?? More people than he ever imagined considered him a close friend because of his generous, kind heart. His greatest joys were his wife, children and his family. In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his wife Dr. Beth Storm Rule and four beautiful sons, Charles, James, Samuel and Thomas, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his devoted brothers and sisters-in-law Nick and Kimber Rule, Chris and Laura Rule, as well as his nieces Camille Rule and Rebecca Bailey and his Nyhus step-siblings and Storm in-laws. He was blessed with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his grandparents, his beloved aunt and uncle Joan and George Campbell, and his nephew Christopher Rima. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock. A reception will be held immediately following in the Great Hall of the church. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit Adam?s children can be made to the ?Rule Children?s Trusts? and mailed to 200 Chalamont Ln., Little Rock, AR 72223. Alternately, gifts can be given to Lyon College or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

To Beth,Herb,& all of Adam's family:

We are so saddened to hear of Adam's departure. He was much loved & it is a terrible loss. We have fond memories of us all at Adam's beloved Hilton Head-going down to Harbor Town to hear the kids music, riding bikes, keeping a lookout for gators, & just hanging out at the condo.
We continue to pray that the Lord brings your family peace, strength, & comfort in this very difficult time. God Bless You!

Thanks to Adam, and his invitation to speak at the 2013 SCTR
Forum, he inspired me to also get involved and to follow in his footsteps of dedication to Telehealth. His inspiration during my first presentation on the subject was so helpful and encouraging which got me through it as a rookie.

Adam, thanks for your special life and know we will be praying for your family and colleagues.
Love,

To the Rule Family: there are few words to relieve your pain. Your loss is just too great. I know how much your family loved Adam and supported each other during this ongoing and painful time. He was a joy every time I was in his company and it was obvious how he loved all of you. I so wish there was something I could say or do to make this better. Regretfully, I must leave that with God, as Adam now is. Be assured, I am here for anything you need, within my power. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Janet Crafton

Dear Herb, Beth, Nick, Chris and family,

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I have fond memories of Adam as a child and regret not knowing him better as the fine man and father he grew up to be. We will cherish his memory as we admire and console the Rule family whose sons, daughters and relations have so enriched our lives. Please accept our family's condolences.

Dear Beth, Chris, Nick, and Herb,

I'm so very sorry to hear of Adam's passing. He will always be to me, my little "Suzuki Baby". I was the oldest student, about 8 years older than him, and in my ripe old age of 16, I was pretty much the student that was put in charge of getting all of the "little ones" tuned up, lined up, and all in "order" before walking on stage. I remember him as a boisterous, excited, happy child ...with a little edge of mischievousness, which also became my responsibility to keep under control...especially when we were starting to walk on stage. I must admit...I probably gave him a couple of "bow swats" on the butt...more than once...to get him to cut out the "clowning" as we were walking on stage! Nothing serious..just a cue to say "we have to get our act together now :)
My best memory of Adam was the time that we were brought up to Jonesboro to play with the Northeast Arkansas Symphony ---featuring Joe McSpadden's Suzuki students. Adam and I were featured together in a demonstration in which we played one violin together. We played on his small violin...I squatted down and put my left arm around his shoulder, and we played the piece together with him doing the fingering with his left hand, and me bowing the violin with my right.
A picture of us was published in the Jonesboro Sun newspaper. I was so proud of him...we did so well together! (and I never needed to "swat" him again!) That was our glorious day together! And we did that performance several more times in different venues. He became my little partner after that. He learned to behaved admirably on-stage...and also learned that once we were done, and back in the lobby...he could let loose again! A delightful free spirit, that just got into everything that he could! A free and joyous child! I left the program the next year, and never saw Adam again, although I did keep up with Chris for another year or two. Anyway--please know that I loved my little "partner" and have thought about him many many times throughout my life. God Bless You All! ---All My Love---Susan Young Thigpen.

As a co-worker, I didn't know Adam well personally, but respected him and his passion for telehealth. Adam's contributions to the UAMS Center for Distance Health will be felt for many years...as many of you who've watched the video clip know, no one can tell "Jennifer's Story" quite like Adam.

The grace in which the Rule family embraced these tragic circumstances is an example for all of us. Thank you, Beth, for so eloquently sharing this journey with us through your blog. There is no doubt that Adam knew how much he was loved by his family and friends.

To Adam's loved ones, I wish you all peace and comfort in the coming days and months as you carry on without him.

I am so sorry of your loss. Although I did not know Adam I can tell he was a wonderful young man.

My late husband Andy was a good friend of Herb at LRCHS.

I have lost a son and a daughter as young adults and know how deep the pain can lie. As you know, only God can lessen it.

Love and blessings,

I'm at a loss... Adam had a huge impact on my career in tv, he was the best to work with and always argued hoops with me, wow those were the best times... He helped me get out of a struggling tv station at the old WB in Little Rock and make now a 16 year career.. He always pushed me to be the best, I thank the world to him everyday for that.. I say a special message to adam's family and friends, "we need more Adam Rule's, we need them ASAP "
