Biography: James Calman McCastlain, Jr., born June 17, 1994, chose April 25, 2014, as his time to enter heaven. Being of strong faith, he knew the peace and glory that awaited him. Cal graduated from Catholic High School For Boys in 2013. His favorite competitive sport was soccer. Cal dominated as a soccer outside defensive back for Coach Rob Nelsen's Maumelle Maniacs club team for three years, during which they won two state championships, each followed by strong showings in national tournaments. Cal found a love for the outdoors early. He was an avid hunter. Without revealing camp secrets, he could proudly display some of the camp manners he learned from the gentlemen of The Old Guard Hunt Club. Cal loved summer water sports and insisted on driving the boat. Cal was a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in Wyoming, and, willing to spend a little time indoors, completed the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. But no matter the season, Cal was constant in his faith and involvement in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church youth programs, which included community outreach and a mission trip to Guatemala. Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church provided an exceptional outlet for Cal's instinct to care for and serve others. Whether in service, work or play, stories of his smile and charm are constant. Cal's immediate family, parents Cal and Heather McCastlain, and siblings William and Margeaux, miss him dearly and draw on the love and support of an extended family. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Youth Ministries Endowment, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, AR 72205. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

To Cal's family,

I have never met you personally, but know Kenny and Madonna, as well as others in your family. My husband, Steve Meacham, and I have experienced the same type of loss. We lost our son, Kyle (24), four years ago to suicide. So, we can truly say, we know what your family is going through. We are so, so sorry for your loss. I can tell by your tribute to Cal, and the beautiful picture, what a light he was and will continue to be to all who knew him. If you would like to talk at any time, please don't hesitate to contact me. You will all be in my thoughts.

Cal, Bobby and I just heard about your families loss today. We wish we could come up with words of comfort and the only thing we can come up with is what King David said at the loss of his son "He can't come to me so I will go to him" May God provide you with peace and comfort that only He can provide. Our hearts ache for you and your family and we will pray earnestly and sincerely for you during this time. May God comfort you and your family.
