Biography: Rita May Walker McClure, age 67 of Little Rock, peacefully left us on Monday, December 23, 2013, with her family at her side. She was born November 27, 1946 and grew up in Camden, Arkansas and was a long-time resident of Hot Springs, then Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leslie and Inice Walker, sister, Sue Weaver, and brothers-in-law, Robert Earl Smithpeters and George McNabb. Rita graduated from UALR with a master?s degree in social work. She was a licensed clinical social worker at Community Counseling Services in Hot Springs before opening a private practice where she touched so many lives as a therapist. She was especially proud of her group therapy work with veterans. Later in her career, as a social worker at the HSC Medical Center, Rehab Unit, she was able to be a caring friend and advocate to patients in times of need. Rita was progressive, open minded and ahead of her time in many ways. She fiercely loved her family and her friends and her positive attitude, courage and generosity were an inspiration to all that knew her. The world is truly a better place because of Rita May. Rita is survived by her two daughters, Tish McClure and Kami McClure (Roger Dayan), grandchildren, Margot Dayan and Jonah Dayan, her longtime companion, Reece Stiles (who gave her many years of love, laughter and friendship), brothers, Mike Walker (Ann) and Tommy Walker (Linda), brother-in-law, Vernon Weaver (Sue, deceased), mother-in-law, Stella McClure, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Monteith, Shirley Smithpeters and Laverne McNabb. Rita May Walker (Memay) is the best grandmother I ever could've hoped for. I say "is" because she still is my grandmother. Even if she is no longer alive, she will always be my grandmother as long as people remember her. I have honestly never met someone who was able to stay so positive, generous, selfless, and loving even though they themselves suffer greatly from disease. But Rita May did not let rheumatoid arthritis define her. One day while I was visiting her she was letting me ride on her motorized wheelchair with her. Then we hit the curb and the wheelchair toppled over. Rita just laughed it off. Before her disease she was very active. She loved camping and taking trips. When she got sick she still took those trips by reading. Her three favorite things (besides her friends and family) were reading, coffee, and cats. Unfortunately I never knew Rita before she had arthritis, but I am ever so thankful that I ever knew her at all, even if it was only for a little while.

Even though I haven't seen Rita Mae in many years, I will remember our 'growing up' years and think of her fondly. She was truly a good person and will be sorely missed.

As with many of our friends, I allowed time to pass without contact far too long. I can't remember a time when Rita didn't have a smile whenever we met again. She can genuinely be described as a "good soul". She will be truly missed.

Rita was my friend for 35 years and I will miss her upbeat attitude despite all the suffering she went through constantly. I can't believe that she won't be on the other end of the phone when I need to tell her something about my grandkids and hear about hers. Thank God for her life and her lasting legacy in two wonderful daughters and two grandkids.

I have many fond memories of growing up with Rita in Camden. We were neighbors and friends and had great fun times. I loved her outgoing, generous nature and loyalty to her friends and family. No doubt she had a lasting impact on many lives! May her friends and family find comfort and peace at this very sad time.
