Biography: Romy was a man after God's heart, and he loved his family and his job. Born Romeo Ubungen Antipolo in the Philippines October 3, 1948, Romy came to the United States and went to work for St. Vincent's Hospital as an OR staff nurse in 1973. It was only 4 years later that he became the OR head nurse. He and St. Vincent's were a team for 39 years until a stroke in 2012 caused his retirement. His death last week, Friday, December 13, 2013 was due to congestive heart failure. Romy was very proud of his family, including his wife of 39 years, Norie and two sons, Giovanni and Jeremy (Ashley); Romy was crazy about his grandboys, Jonas and Beckam. He is also survived by his mother, Cleofe; siblings, Enriqueta, Samuel (Yolanda), Norma (James), Olivia, Juanito Jr. (Norma), Linda (Ferdie), Oscar, Cleonito, and Reynaldo (Rica) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Juanito Antipolo, Sr. Romy was very much a Renaissance man. He loved to cook and dance and sing and play the piano and garden and take pictures. He was just an artist by heart. But Romy found teaching to be his forte. He enjoyed preparing nurses (as Operating Room Staff Development Specialist)?but he really shined in teaching the Bible. Romy?s classes with friends in the Filipino community were always ongoing. He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and he loved missions. Romy was active in "Operation New Life" with the Honduran people. If Romy were here, he would share his favorite Bible verse with everyone. "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32 Visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham St., on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Operation New Life c/o Fellowship Bible Church, 1401 Kirk Rd., Little rock, AR 72223. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

I had the privilege of meeting and caring for Romy in 2012 and knew immediately he was a special person. As I got to know his loving family I knew they were all blessings from above.
I'm so sorry that the last year has been such a trial, but thankful to know Romy was surrounded by such wonderful, caring, genuine family and friends. As I work now with another close family member of Romy's family I wish you all to know I wish you peace and love and comfort in the days to come.

I had the wonderful opportunity as a Surgeon to work closely with Romy in the Surgery Department in St. Vincent's for many years. It was a a plesure to see his smiling face every morning and know he would have everything ready to go and under control. I am sorry I am unable to attend the visitation and visit with his family. I am also sorry to miss seeing some of the other Surgery Nurses I worked with during Romy's time. My condolences and prayers go to all his family and friends.

Jeremy, Ashley, and family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I know how very much you loved him. To describe him as a man after God's own heart says it all. Wow. What a legacy he has left for his family. I wish I could have met him, and may have seen him in the halls at Fellowship not knowing he was your dad. Take comfort in the wonderful life your dad has lived and in knowing he is in the presence of God. You are in my prayers.

May God comfort your family during this time of grief. Romeo was one of my first preceptors in the operating room at SVI. He was a wonderful nurse, full of energy and life. I know he will be missed terribly by his family and friends but the memories he leaves with us are a blessing.

Was fortunate to visit with Romy and Norie a year ago in their new home. As usual, Romy was very friendly, hospitable, and entertaining during the visit. The Filipino community and several others will really miss him. My deepest sympathy to Norie, Giovanni, and Jeremy and the Antipolo family for your great loss. During this time, may you be assured of the comfort and guidance that await you at the gentle hand of our Heavenly Father. God's blessing to all of you who knew and loved Romy. He is now with the Lord who he served well. Take care and God bless.

It is with deep sadness that I learned about Romy's death. Romy could be considered as one the original group of nurses that came to Arkansas. A very active participant/leader in the Filipino group, I came to know him when I attended the Filipino parties(of which there were many)and joined the Filipino Christmas caroling group. He would always sing at parties and crack jokes that really amused us guests. He has brought joy and and laughter to the group. God Bless his soul and may he rest in eternal peace. My sincere condolences to the Antipolo family.
