Biography: Laura Stewart Blackwell, 60, was released from her struggle with Alzheimer?s disease Saturday December 7th, 2013. Laura, or Lotus Blossom as she was known for her purity and beauty, was born July 31, 1953 in Huntsville, Arkansas to her cherished parents Joseph V. and Verlyn Stewart. She attended Central High School and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and was a proud Tiger and Razorback. She was also a faithful public employee, working for Arkansas Building Authority for over twenty-five years. Lotus?s kind and gentle soul made her a friend to many. May her bravely cheerful attitude that persevered throughout her disease be a legacy of hope for all those voyaging through similar hardships, as well as the loved ones that accompany them. She is survived by her daughters, Jess and Kate Blackwell, granddaughter, Stewart O?Malley, sister, Diana Edgin, brother, Joseph V. Stewart II, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Services will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home Thursday December 12th at 1:00. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Jess and Kate,

I am so sorry for your loss. I will be with you tomorrow in spirit, thinking of and praying for you both. She was an amazing woman who raised two amazing young women, and she could make the best biscuits and gravy I ever tasted! Memories of her will always be close to my heart. I love you both dearly, and I'm not far away if you need anything at all. May she rest in peace.

Sincerely,
Kelsey

Reading of Laura's death brought back many fond memories of the good times we shared with Joe & Verlyn, even before we were married or had kids. You all are very dear to me and I keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Saddened to hear of the premature passing of Lotus Blossom. She and her roommates were my next door neighbors in Fayetteville during college.
Jess and my daughters all used to play together when we ere neighbors in Hillcrest back in the 80's.
My sympathy goes out to Laura's daughters and all of her family.

I worked with Laura for many years at "State Building Services/ AR Building Authority". We enjoyed the visits to the office after she retired to see that she was keeping her spirits up inspite of the disease.
She was a beautiful spirit and person. I was always amazed to see her art work. Your obituary was a wonderful reminder of her artistic and poetic soul and what wonderful children she raise. My prayers are with you during this time and know she was loved by many.
God Bless.

Laura was as unique as her nickname, Lotus. She was truly as beautiful inside as she was outside. She was such a fun friend to so many of us back in her U of A days. My deepest sympathy to her girls and all of her family. Rest in peace sweet Lotus.

Your Mom worked for my Dad, George Mitchell, for many years. He thought a lot of her and your family. Daddy and her Dad, Joe, were great friends. Growing up we always heard lots of stories about your Mom. She was a great person. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

She is a thousand winds that blow, and a diamond glint upon the snow and sunlight on ripened grain and the gentle autumn rain. She will forever be alive in me. I love and treasure my memory of Lotus Blossum. I will always remember her! Rest in peace my dear friend.
