Biography: Dr. Gary Zane Hestir, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 at his home in Little Rock. He was 67. Dr. Hestir was born in Little Rock, December 26, 1938, to Velma Zana Overstreet and Garner Malcolm Hestir. He attended Little Rock public schools, was an eagle scout, and graduated from Central High School in 1957. He attended The University of Oklahoma on a Navy scholarship where he studied engineering. Following college he decided to shift careers paths and enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated with honors in 1964 and returned to Little Rock to practice. In 1967 he moved his practice to Cabot, Arkansas. For health reasons, he retired in 2005. Dr. Hestir was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sailing. He was an active member of the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club. He raced sailboats locally and nationally for over thirty years, He was a skilled craftsman who built a custom-designed Thirty foot sailboat, which he raced at Lake Maumelle for twenty years. He is survived by his wife, Susan Whiteman Hestir, daughter and son-in-law, Jenna and Michael Begier of New Bern, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Blake Hestir and Michelle Tilghman of Fort Worth, Texas. The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrence A. Mendelsohn and the staff at Hematology/Oncology Associates and Baptist Hospice for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 4:00 – 6:00 at Ruebel Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later date.
