Biography: Charles J "Pinky" Steed passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 on his 91st birthday. He was born in Little Rock to the late Isham J and Vivian Scott Steed. He played football for Little Rock High School and Arkansas Tech. With offers from the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers, he instead chose to serve his country during World War II. He served as a second lieutenant in the Sixth Marine Division and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded during the Battle of Okinawa in June 1945. Returning to Little Rock, he worked for and ultimately owned the Brandon Company until he retired in 1987. Pinky loved God, his family, his country and his many friends. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished spending time hunting and fishing. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Francis Armbrust Steed and sisters, Vivian Thompson and Sarah Gannaway, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Kit Williams of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren, Scott Williams of Cottonwood, Arizona and Mary Williams of Dallas, Texas, brothers-in-law James Gannaway and Tommy Thompson and nieces and nephew. He was simply the best husband, daddy, father-in-law and grandfather. We have lost one of the greats of the Greatest Generation. Mr. Pinky Steed was a difference maker! He had his priorities in order. God, Family & Work... I had the joy of having him and Fran in Bible Class @ St. James from 1996 - 2000. I will always remember his spirit of generosity he had for the poor. The way he took care of his precious wife Fran. I thank God for the opportunity to have known Mr. & Mrs. Pinky Steed. One day we will see him again "in the house that is not made with human hands but eternal in the heavens."

Nancy and Family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I met your dad a St. James United Methodist Church and we became pew buddies. I enjoyed stopping by and visiting with him and taking him all kinds of goodies through out the year. His favorite was my homemade chocolate covered peanuts. This year I put the peanuts in a bag with an Easter Bunny on it and put it in his Easter Basket. He loved it. When I went to visit he would always have my dishes by the front door on his bench. I will greatly miss my wonderful church friend. Charles was so wonderful and will be greatley miss by all who knew him.

Nancy and Family, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve your Father's death. I first met both your parents when I started working as a hygienist in Dr. John Hatley's office in 1973. I treasured them as very dear special patients and friends. Your Father showed his unconditional love for your Mother daily and especially after she became ill. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him, but will be in peace as he is rejoined with your Mom. God bless you and take care.
