Biography: Seth ?Skeeter? Ward II, born April 20, 1953 in Irving, Texas, died in his home in Little Rock on May 1, 2013. A lifelong tinkerer, Skeeter?s mechanical ingenuity was boundless. There was nothing he couldn?t repair or otherwise ?improve,? sometimes to his wife?s great dismay. He patented numerous inventions, most notably the world?s first solar powered parking meter. Lesser known inventions include custom can lights, eyeglass holders and one-of-a-kind gardening items. The son of a World War II fighter pilot, Ward was also an accomplished aviator. Always modest, he nicknamed himself ?Sky King.? Despite close encounters with thunderstorms, lost engines, and other airborne peril, he always brought his passengers home safely, albeit terrified on occasion. Skeeter adored animals. He grew up with dogs, horses, goats, lizards, and even a monkey he ordered from the back of a magazine. Whether ?donating? a channel catfish to his in-laws koi pond, or bestowing hermit crabs on his grandson for a birthday gift, he was always eager to share his love of animals. Note to the Dallas drive through zoo: sorry about the missing feed bucket; he accidentally fed it to a hippo. Skeeter?s owned and operated the Russellville-based parking meter company POM, Inc. since 1980. He made the commute from Little Rock by air for many years, logging over 5,000 take offs and landings in the process. He was loved by his employees and often returned their love with carefully orchestrated practical jokes. More than anything, Skeeter loved his family, especially his high school sweetheart and wife of 38 years, Anne Balch Ward. Skeeter joined the Cathedral of Saint Andrew after converting to Catholicism in 1991. He is survived by his wife, his two sons, Seth Ward III and wife, Kelly; James Phillip Ward and wife, Allison; and his daughter, Katharine Ward Hargis and husband, Aaron; along with three grandchildren, Phillip Ward, Seth Ward IV and Olivia Ward. He was also survived by his two sisters, Sally W. Smith and Suzanna Hubbell. A visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Friday, May 3, from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Cathedral of St. Andrew Renovation Fund or the Humane Society of Pulaski County. They also ask that you tell your wives, husbands, sons and daughters how much you love them and what they mean to you. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Skeeter was my grandfather and he was one of the most wonderful people ever. I loved him a lot and I am very sad about him. He died the day after the birthday and it was the best birthday ever because I was with him. I spent the whole day with him and he gave me fishing supplies and bubby gave me a venus fly trap. He also taught me a fisherman's knought. I will continue to pray for him in heaven and i will always remember the that birthday.

I worked for Skeeter at POM over 20 years ago. He was a wonderful man and truly enjoyed life. Though I have not seen him in many years, I have very fond memories of him and of POM, Inc. To Anne and the Family, may God be especially present with you during this difficult time and may you find comfort in your memories of Skeeter.

Skeeter was one of my very first clients as a young patent attorney. I worked with him on patenting his many ideas. I always really enjoyed Skeeter's creativity and sense of humor - he never missed a chance to tell me a good lawyer joke. My prayers are with his family and everyone at POM.

I have no words to describe the void that is left by Skeeter's passing. I have worked for Skeeter since he bought POM. He was a wonderful boss, a friend, a guide, a mentor, an inspiration, an adviser, and so much more to me and to all his POM employees. Everyone here at POM knew how much he loved his wife and his entire family. My heart goes out to each one of you. You are all in my prayers.

Dear Anne and Family,
I am at a loss to express how saddened Mark and I were to hear about Skeeter. We did a bit of reminiscing yesterday and the one word we felt most closely captured Skeeter was invincible. The bigger the challenge, the happier he was. The memories of our times together, although long, long ago, will remain with us always. Here's to Skeeter...the Invincible.

Dear Anne,
What a wonderful eulogy; it described Skeeter perfectly. He lived life to the fullest! I am so very sorry for your loss. Skeeter was my boss at POM for 28 years. I watched Seth, Jay, and Kate grow up - from babies, to teens, to adults. My sincere sympathies go to each of them and their families. God bless all of you at this terrible time in your life.

Dear Anne, Sally, Suzi and Webb,
There are no words to express my sadness at Skeeter's passing. I would not trade the memories I have of our many adventures with Skeeter at Lake Hamilton skiing; sneaking into Skeeter's room to see if we could get his piranha to attack my finger; in Japan, Hong Kong and Hawaii; and all the silly pranks. I pray for you and your families to be surrounded with His love, comfort and all the happy memories in celebration of Skeeter's life. Love and hugs,
Linda

I am so profoundly saddened by Skeeter?s death that I am at a loss for words. At first when I saw his picture so many old memories flooded my mind and then I was overwhelmed. I remember him so vividly. I t will take a long time if ever for me to accept that he?s gone. It?s as if a part of me has been lost.

I never had a better friend in the world. Skeeter will be in my thoughts for as long as I live. I will never forget him. You, Anne, and your family have my most heartfelt sympathy.

To the family: Jim and I have talked on the phone for 2 hours at least, we have covered good times at the lake, and headbuts and lots of male bonding! Skeeter is as active in my brain as my Dad and my Father. Many many good times on "pffffffft," and the other vessels. I will be actively praying for all of those whose lives were touched by Skeeter, those close and once removed. My spirit is with all of you.

I was very sorry to read about Skeeter's passing. He was in my homeroom in school and I remember him well. He always seemed to be laughing and joking, and even when he wrecked his corvette, he came in with the flag emblem and said,"Well, at least I got to kee this!". He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
