Biography: Anne Jones Banks of Little Rock died Wednesday morning, October 25, 2006, at the UAMS Medical Center at the age of 91. Born January 30, 1915, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bass Jones of Pine Bluff where she spent the early years of her life. She was educated at Stuart Hall in Staunton, Virginia and Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After college, she spent a year in France and traveled through Europe extensively, witnessing firsthand the tumultuous events that afflicted the continent prior to World War II. In 1937 she married Richard Holmes Banks of Fordyce whose well known family was engaged in the insurance, lumber and railroad business. The couple lived in Memphis, Tennessee during the war years and moved to Fordyce after the war. From 1959 to 1964 she worked with her husband at the A. B. Banks Insurance Company in Fordyce. Following his death in 1964, she continued that work for another six years and then moved to Little Rock in 1970 where she resided until her death. Organizational skills were among her many talents and she was an active member of the the Hawthorne Book Club of Pine Bluff, the Junior League of Little Rock, the Colonial Dames, the Country Club of Little Rock, and St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. She was an outstanding community leader and a creative force who is credited with starting many organizations including the Junior Auxiliary of Pine Bluff, which became the Junior League of Pine Bluff, and the Girls Cotillion Club of Pine Bluff. She was known throughout her life as an exceptional dancer and was a founder and a president of Anthesis, a dance club in Little Rock. She loved the theater and all types of music and regularly attended Broadway play openings in New York. She traveled throughout the world on numerous trips with family and friends. Her magnetic personality and joie de vivre left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She had a gift for easily connecting with different types of people and had adoring friends of all ages. Her generosity of spirit, her quest for adventure and excitement, her gregarious nature, and her unquenchable desire to have a good time and to always be "on the go" will be sorely missed by those who knew her. She was a delightful and exhilarating presence who had an insatiable curiosity and influenced everyone she met. She was a caring and giving person who loved her family and her friends unconditionally. Her sole wish in life was for those near and dear to her to be happy and content. In later life, her grit and determination in the face of many obstacles were an inspiration to all. The family expresses deep appreciation to the health care professionals at the UAMS Medical Center who provided expert and compassionate care during the last years and final days of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Banks Brown and her husband, Justice Robert Laidlaw Brown; one grandson, Stuart Laidlaw Brown and his wife, Victoria Kumpuris Brown; and her sister, Rachel Jones Williams of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Other survivors are her nephews: Richard Jones Williams of Richmond, VA; Stuart Latham Williams of Virginia Beach, VA.; John Walker Jones, of New Orleans; George Banks Collins, of Chicago; Richard Leighton Collins, of Ijamsville, MD, and her nieces: Martha Jones Mason, of Raleigh, NC; Carter Williams Whitlatch, Concord, CA; and Tyler Williams Rubio, Mission Viejo, CA. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Walker Jones, and his wife, Catherine Ann Shepherd Jones of Pine Bluff.
