Biography: Clara Lou Foster Connell was born January 18, 1917 in Springhill, AR, the daughter of the late Henry Haskin [Hal] and Clara Adeline Martin Foster. She was the last of six children born to this union. She was married to Lewis Leonard Connell on November 16, 1935. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1991. Mrs. Connell was active in the United Methodist Church her entire lifetime. She taught every age level of the Church School and often was a leader for special Bible and Mission studies. She was involved in the United Methodist Women at the local, district and conference level. She served as President of her local unit a number of times and also held other offices. She was the first woman appointed to the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Student Movement at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR. In addition to her church involvement she was also a volunteer in numerous community activities in the various cities where she has lived. She resided at the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Good Shepherd at the time of her death. A son, Dr. Foster Gladwin Connell, Little Rock, survives her. A daughter, Marcia Lynda, and four brothers and one sister preceded her in death. On March 22nd she transferred her membership from the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Little Rock, to the Church Triumphant where she continues to serve her risen Lord and Savior. The Celebration of Christian Victory will be Friday, March 24th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home. Reverend Lavon Post and Reverend Clefton Vaughan will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hope. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be James Ault, Alan Duncan, Reverend Terry Gosnell. Jay Jones, Dr. K. Richard Knoll, and Dr. Tracy Windham. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jim Morse, Dr. Ahmad Abdelal, Pearl Downs, Jerry Matthew, Margaret Ault, Nurses and Staff at Arkansas Hospice and Nurses and Staff at the Nursing and Rehabilitation unit at Good Shepherd. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement Center, 2701 Aldersgate Road, Little Rock, AR 72205.
