Biography: Isolene Levy Shindler, age 92, of Little Rock, passed away at West Markham Rehab Center on Monday, January 28, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born in New Orleans, LA, on April 13, 1920, and she was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Shindler, in 2008. Mrs. Shindler is survived by her children, Donald (Laura) of Chicago, Michael (Andrea) of Chicago and Orlando, FL, Lesley (Steve) Hughes of Chicago, and David (Julie) of Little Rock. She was ?Nina? to her grandchildren, Jay Shindler and Susan (Cliff) Bockard; Adam Shindler and Carey (Matt) Warren; Daniel Hughes, Allison Hughes and Jessica Hughes; and Lindsey Shindler and Alex Shindler; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden and Wyatt Bockard. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Levy of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Robert Levy, of Laredo, Texas, her brother-in-law, Herbert Barton of New Orleans, and many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shindler graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1940 with a Bachelors of Business Administration, one of only three women in her class. In addition to raising her family, she worked a variety of accounting and business administration jobs in New Orleans and relocated to Little Rock when her husband was transferred in 1969, where she continued to be a full-time mother to her younger children. She immediately became a volunteer at St. Vincent Medical Infirmary Auxiliary, working in the Gift Shop, and was honored when she achieved 10,000 hours of service over a continuous 30+ year period. Isolene was an active member of Temple B?nai Israel, its Sisterhood and a former Board Member of the Temple. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle aficionado, a lifelong member of the National Mah Jongg League and loved theater. Her great pride was her family ? her children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces ? and her great love, after 60+ years of marriage and almost five years after his death, was her beloved husband Alan. They set a great example for all who knew them. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 1, at Temple B?nai Israel, 3700 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her memory to Temple B?Nai Israel, the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.
