Biography: Lindy Verl Bowie, Jr., lost his twenty-one year fight with cancer Friday evening at home comforted by family. A man that spit in the eye of adversity for so many years finally settled down for some long overdue peace. Lindy was born November 11, 1951 in Little Rock. The eldest of five children, his core traits of loyalty, grit, and meticulousness were soon evident. As a young man he realized the value of hard work. He was hired by the Coca-Cola Company before graduating from McClellan High School in 1970 and earned his Masters Degree in Engineering from U.A.L.R. in 1974. He departed from the Coca-Cola Company in 2002. As a testimony to his loyalty, Lindy could not help but make a friend feel true shame by even the mention of Coke?s competitor. After a brief respite, Lindy was hired by the State of Arkansas as Deputy Director in 2003 and only retired from the state last October when the viciousness of his disease returned with a unreckoned purpose and he began the last leg of his lonesome journey. Lindy is preceded in death by his wife of seven years, Penny Wallace Bowie, with whom he shared his love of travel, a good boat ride across Lake Ouachita and the diagnosis of cancer. He leaves behind his father, Lindy Bowie, Sr.; his mother, Lyda; his sister, Sara Wylie (Phillip); his brother, Michael Bowie; his sister, Suzanne Wylie (Tom); his sister Elizabeth Dillard and a slew of others connected through kin and friendship. We have watched with equal measures of disbelief, not so quiet wonder, and lately, failing hope, as our son, our brother, our friend, and our uncle has traveled along his path. Lindy suffered no pity, but he suffered and because of that we are grateful he is now allowed this restorative sleep. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lindy?s name to the Myeloma Institute at UAMS, Slot 816, 4301 West Markham Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, the 6th of February at 11:30 a.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. This is a shock to me! The last time I talked to Lindy ,he was in remission. I knew him since high school,and he was a groomsman in my wedding.Forty-three years I knew this man. This will be Heaven's gain, and our loss. Me and my family will pray for lindy's mother and the rest of the family. He was a friend and a brother in Christ.

I am so saddened to hear about Lindy.I have so many wonderful memories of Lindy and the times we have spent together over the years!He was an awesome friend and man; who will be greatly missed by all who knew him! Lindy has always been a "special" friend to me who I will remember forever!

I was on a road trip to Memphis with Lindy to watch Razorback basketball, when he told me he had leukemia. I thought it was a death sentence but watched in amazement for 20 plus years as Lindy lived his life with zeal. He married, bought homes, advanced his career and interacted constantly with family and friends. Lindy is an inspiration for any of us who think we caught a bad break. May Lindy rest in peace.

I wish I had gotten to know Lindy before his final days. I was the nurse who admitted him onto our services at Arkansas Hospice. He sounds like a great man and a great example to others, a man who touched the lives of many people. I will pray for the comfort of his family.

We had the pleasure of knowing and working with Lindy at the Dept. of Information Systems. He was a man of his word and was always willing to listen and help in any way he could. We miss him - but are thankful that he is resting in peace and comfort now. We will keep the Bowie Family in our thoughts and prayers.

Just wanted to let you and your family how very sorry I am to hear about Lindy. I had the opportunity to meet him at Sirloins Inn where Mike and I were attending a dinner. He seemed like a wonderful person and from Mike has told me he was Awesome! I will Prqy for Peace for each of you. Mike if you need anything please let me know.

I had the pleasure to work with Lindy at the Coca-Cola plant in Searcy. Lindy enjoyed sharing with me his plans for the house in Cabot & he would walk me thru the house as it was built. Lindy greatly enjoyed buying for Penny a BMW convertible even though he was not a big car fan. It brought him great pleasure to provide for Penny a vehicle she liked. Lindy will be missed by all who had been blessed to know him. Prayers for his family.

Lindy and I went to high school together. We lost touch, but it was great to see him again at DIS. He always had a smile and a friendly word to say when we met. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. It's always tough losing someone we love, but just remember...he's not sick or hurting any more...and you will see him again.

Lindy was such a great man and it has been a pleasure to know him most of my 27 years. Through his friendship with my mother I came to look at him as a friend of my own and as a "second father." There will not be a lake or football season that goes by that I won't think of him. I will miss him dearly but feel peace knowing that he is no longer suffering. We love you Lindy and Go Hogs!

Lindy was such a stand up person with a great sense of humor. He was a tremendous fellow Coca-Cola Bottler and a dear friend of the soft drink community. Peace to his family. They are in our prayers.

To the Family, Lindy was truly a good man, we would have many heartfelt talks when we worked together at DIS, he was always available to provide advice, assistance, and levity. His song may have ended but his melody will linger on.

It was a pleasure knowing and working with Lindy. I remember that whenever we passed in the hallways or elevators here at DIS he was always sure to say hi and ask how thing were. I admired that he took the time to talk with me and answer any question that I may have. He will be missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Lindy's passing but find comfort in the joy that he is now in Heaven and no longer suffering! I worked with Lindy during his tenure at DIS and had many conversations about how to solve the problems with our beloved Razorbacks. I miss those conversations...even the ones about LSU! :) He was a good man and will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with those loved ones that he left behind.

I have known and worked with Lindy during his tenure at the Department of Information Systems. I have many pleasant memories of conversations with Lindy that span a wide rang of topics. Most profound were the conversations we had during his surgery and recovery at UAMS over the past year. In the quiet of his hospital room, we had the uninterrupted time to discuss many life situations. Lindy fought cancer tenaciously and with exceptional courage, and became an inspiration to me. Lindy will be greatly missed.

Lindy was one of my best friends. I was blessed with 40 years of his friendship. He was a groomsmen in my wedding. Godfather to my oldest daughter Heather. Barbara and both my daughters thought the world of him. There was no finer razorback fan that lived. He was one of the hardest working guys I have ever known. He faught his disease so hard. I am happy he is at peace.
He will be deeply missed by many. My condolences go out to his mother and his family who took great care of him this past year.

Lindy was my best fiend and will bemised greatly. Lindy had the type of personality and loyalty that many people considered him their best freind. His family has Kaye and my deepest sympathy.

I had no better friend than Lindy. Many nights we sat on one of our decks at the lake and solved all the worlds problems. I really missed him last spring and summer, and will continue to miss him for as long as I am on this earth. Please accept condolences from myself and my wife Katy.

To Lindy's Family,

I worked with Lindy at the DIS for a long time and enjoyed talking him about the Razorbacks. Lindy could always make you smile and no matter what he always had your back. We will miss him dearly.
