A bonus day for me at UAMS was the day the murpheys would volunteer. They were just cute together and well liked by everyone,

Mills always had a twinkle in his eye and that special smile.

I am lucky that they touched my life.

One of my first contacts with Mr. Murphey was when I was in a film appreciation group years ago. One of his daughters, Peggie, was a member, and we all traveled to some screenings in El Dorado.

There, we met the dad of one of the members, and he pleasantly asked Peggie about her parents. When she mentioned that he had represented management at AP&L in labor negotiations, the father of our friend said he had represented labor and had always been impressed with Mr. Murphey's honesty, good manners and polite manner in their discussions.

When Peggie returned to Little Rock, she mentioned to her daddy that she'd met a man who knew him years ago in labor negotiations. When she mentioned his name, her father praised him for the same values for which he himself had been complimented.

Peggie was impressed that both men spoke so highly of each other when, in reality, they were on opposite sides of the table in most talks.

In the years that I knew Mr. Murphey, I was impressed with his friendliness, courtesy, and gentle nature. He was kind and good-natured, making me wish I had known him longer.
