Biography: Charles Davis Johnson, born August 20, 1953 in Monticello, AR, the only son of Virginia Davis Johnson and the late Charles Eager Johnson, died December 31, 2012 after a long struggle with Parkinson?s Disease. He graduated in 1975 from Hendrix College where he was on the track team. Charles graduated from the U of A at Fayetteville and was a member of the legal staff of the Arkansas Highway Department. He is survived by his wife, Gay Bray Johnson; his mother, Virginia D. Johnson; sisters, Virginia Claire Harrison (George), Patricia Rhodes (Marty), Jane Brown (Fred), Elizabeth Dombeck, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Through many years of living with a debilitating disease, Charles was strengthened by his amazing coping skills and never thought about things he couldn?t do. Charles would not want to be remembered as someone who lived with Parkinson?s Disease for 28 years. He would want to be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. When faced with death, he discovered what was most important in life. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. officiated by Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder and followed by a reception at the church. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, AR. Donations may be made to: CARE (Central Arkansas Rescue Effort) or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson?s Research. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

My sincere condolences to everyone in the Johnson Family. I'm one from high school days who had a crush on Charles. He was so shy and so cute. And he was a great athlete. The whole Johnson family was fun and the Johnson house was the place to be. My prayers include you all as you face tough days ahead. May God keep you close during this time

Sincerely, Becky

Gay-So sorry to hear about Charles. He was one of my favorite attorneys to work for in the Legal Division of the Highway Department. I usually tried to call and check on him at least twice a year. I was going to call him right before Christmas and just never did it. I will miss his laugh the most. You are in my thoughts and prayers today and in the months ahead. May God wrap his arms around you and fill you with His peace.

I was so saddened to hear about the death of Charles. Seeing his beautiful face brought back so many memories of the carefree days we spent in that big rambling house on Bailey Street in Monticello.
Patricia and I would tease Charles unmercifully until he would chase me around the house, catch me and plant a big kiss on my face. It was so funny coming from the seemingly shy, sweet "Charlda" as we called him. He could hold his own in an estrogen-filled home headed by Mama Davis and ruled by Virginia. My heart goes out to my beloved Johnson's and Gay in the loss of our shy boy with the sweet face who played the hand he was dealt courageously and without self-pity. My thoughts and love to all of you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Johnsons. I went to school with Charles and graduated the same year. Charles was a very sweet guy and I thought a lot of him. I remember him in sports since I was a cheerleader that year. I know he will be deeply missed by many. Rest in peace Charles.

I am so sorry I will not be able to attend either of the services for Charles this Friday. As you may know, my oldest brother, Jack, also passed away on Dec.31 and his services are in Clinton on Friday. I will never forget the time I spent in the Johnson home during our Jr.High and High School years. My home away from home. I visited with Charles a couple of times over the years. I regret not going more. Your family was a huge part of my life, and of course, Charles was a groomsman in mine and Karen's wedding. Your family is in my prayers.

Mrs. Johnson, Virginia Claire, Patricia, Jane and Lib,
I am so saddened to hear about Charles. I am praying for all of you. I saw the picture of him and he looks just like he did when I was constantly at y'all's house growing up. Charles was always a great sport while being surrounded by all the sisters and their friends! I'm sure he and Mr. Charles are really catching up! Much love to a very special family, I think we grew up in each other's houses and I miss those days.
