I also swam with Paul and remember him as a fun-loving yet dedicated and talented swimmer. Over the years I have run into Paul around town and he was always gracious and friendly and eager to talk and reminisce. My condolences and best regards to all of the Barden family.

Paul and I swam together at the Racquet Club in the '60's and early '70's. He was a year and a half older than me and the best breaststroker in the state and destined, in my opinion, to be great. Since I swam the same stroke as Paul and he was so good, I always looked up to him. What I remember is how amazingly encouraging he was to me. He would tell me how good I was going to be and that I'd surpass his accomplishments (as much I enjoyed hearing that I didn't believe it for a moment). He was kind to me and even protective like a big brother. He was an interesting combination of tough, cocky and sweet. He was a good friend to me. Like all of his friends on the swim team, I was devastated when Paul was in the accident. To this day, I never drive down that stretch of Markham without thinking of him. To the Bardens, I'm so sorry for your loss but I'm glad that I knew Paul and that he was my friend.
