Biography: FRANK MARION BROWN, 86, of Little Rock died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 after a short illness. He was born August 9, 1926 in Rock Springs, WY and grew up in Kokomo, IN. He attended Purdue University and served in the US Army in the Philippines during WWII, later in the occupation of Japan. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in battle. In 1951, returning after the War, he went to work for Merrill Lynch investment firm in Fresno, CA and soon transferred to the Merrill Lynch office in Hot Springs, AR where he met his wife, Madge. While living in Hot Springs Frank was active in Community Players as lighting director. In 1967 he moved to the Little Rock Merrill Lynch office when the two offices consolidated. He retired from Merrill Lynch in 1989 after a distinguished career of 38 years. In the 1960's Frank indulged his passion for sports cars and amateur racing, participating in the Sports Car Club of America, (SCCA). He and his son Paul modified Frank's Austin Healy, "Ol' Green", for racing. It was noted what a gentleman Frank was off the track but woe be to the drivers who were between him and the lead of the race. Having won or placed in many races, his reputation led to invitations to the SCCA National Runoffs. It was said that he had one of the fastest Austin Healey's in the country. Frank will be remembered for his life-long love of fishing, beginning as a boy fishing in the creek near his Kokomo, IN home and becoming an avid fly fisherman. He was instrumental in the establishment of German Brown Trout in the White and Little Red Rivers. He was a charter and lifetime member of Arkansas Fly Fishers. He and his wife Madge spent weeks out of every year taking their trailer to the wilderness for fishing and hiking. Frank was predeceased by his mother, Maud Anderson, stepfather John Anderson, father George Brown, and brother Earl Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Madge; daughter Candy Johnson, her husband Mike, their sons Stuart, Adam (Erin, Seattle, WA) and Drew (Kelley, Berthoud, CO); son Paul, his wife Susan, their son Turnor; son S. Whittington, his wife Karyn, their daughter Kaleigh, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his brother Paul Brown, wife Jean of Montrose, CO. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, AR 72223, with internment following at the Church's Columnbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, AR 72223. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Met Frank at one of my first meetings with arkansas flyfishers back in the 80s. What a gentleman, and inspiration to anyone associted with the sport. A renissance man, a man's man, and all around good guy.
A man can't be judged by the amount of years he is allowed to be on this earth, but by the people he has touched, and considered him a friend. Frank has a very long list. I can see him now offering casting lessons to St. Peter now. An asset to mankind, a mentor, and an example setter for us all.---God bless my friend.

Frank was a great person and a special fly fisherman. I was hoping he would be here this coming year to help celebrate the Arkansas Fly Fishers 40th anniversary. This is the club Frank was instrumental in forming in the early 70s. Frank was honored in the 90s with a life time membership. He will be missed.

Madge and family--I had to leave right after the church service and was unable to let you know how much Frank meant to me.
If there is a two word definition of Gentleman It would be Frank Brown.
He was a wonderful person and I feel grateful that I had the opportunity to know Frank and have the chance to fly fish with him for at least twenty five years.
He will always be missed by everyone who had a opportunity to meet and get to know this wonderful man.
May God Bless you and your family during this trying time.

Frank Brown in 1976 was the instrument that allowed me to be hired at Merrill Lynch in San Antonio. I left retail sales and moved into Financial Planning almost 37 years ago and still do that today...Frank was responsible for who and where I am...I will always owe him a debt for the kindness, care and concern he showed a young man those many, many years ago. Frank, you were a gentleman and a friend; I know you had a wonderful life, thank you, sincerely thank you...
