Biography: Judith Dortch Burrow, Mrs. Lawrence B. Burrow, Jr., a native of Little Rock, passed away October 6, 2012 at her home in Little Rock. She was born August 8, 1922 in Little Rock, daughter of Mabel Wittenberg Dortch and Steele Dortch of Marlsgate Plantation at Scott, granddaughter of Nettie Steele Dortch and William P. Dortch, also of Marlsgate Plantation. Mrs. Burrow is pre-deceased by her parents and by her husband, Lawrence B. Burrow, Jr. of Little Rock. Mrs. Burrow graduated from Little Rock High School, now Little Rock Central High, and from the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After graduation she taught Kindergarten at Little Rock High and the Jeane Anthony School. She served on the Board of Directors of The Junior League of Little Rock, the Elizabeth Mitchell Home and the Family Service Agency of Little Rock. She was an active member of the Little Rock Garden Club, Garden Club of America and a member of the Country Club of Little Rock. She helped establish the Scott Plantation Settlement and its support organization, Scott Connections, and served as Board President. She helped arrange the donation of a number of historic buildings from Marlsgate Plantation to the settlement, including the original Dortch family homestead built in 1882. Mrs. Burrow was an active tennis player, bridge player and world traveler. She was a lifelong Christian Scientist and taught Sunday School for many years. She served as the Women's Emergency Committee and the STOP campaign protecting teachers from threatened removal by Governor Orville Faubus, in the aftermath of the Central High Crisis in 1957. She was also active in the 1960's in establishing a successful Head Start program at the Nelson School in Scott. Mrs. Burrow is survived by her three sons; Lawrence B. Burrow, III and his partner, Faye Ellen Simpson of Novato, California, Steele D. Burrow and his wife, Bernadette Luciano of Auckland, New Zealand, Christopher B. Burrow and his wife, Harriet of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Thomas S. Burrow, Nicole Burrow, Alesandro Burrow, Steele A. Burrow, Nancy O. Burrow and Lily Rosenzweig. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Dortch McMath of Little Rock and her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Burrow is also survived by numerous Dortch and Steele family members in Little Rock and Lonoke County as well. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Jamie Wilson, Jennifer Word, and Deborah Sims who provided terrific care, attention and companionship. Following a private burial at Roselawn Memorial Park, a memorial service will be held at All Souls Church at Scott at 12 noon Saturday, October 13th. A reception will follow at 3:00pm at the Burrow home in Little Rock. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. Chris and the rest of your family. I am so sorry to see this about Mrs. Burrow. She was always a delight to be around. I hope you can remember the good times after the feeling of loss becomes a little more distant.

Heaven just got a Dandy..I will miss Judy immensely. My sympathy and condolences to the whole family. I also will very much miss her chicken spaghetti and her barbeque duck.
