Biography: A. Delbert Mickel, Jr., 64, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Delbert, born in Conway, Arkansas, on April 29, 1948, spent his childhood in Russellville and Conway, before earning his doctorate in law from the University of Arkansas. He owned Mickel Law Firm, P.A., in Little Rock. Delbert was a loving husband, the most amazing father, and was beyond enthusiastic for baseball. He was a coach, mentor, employer and friend, but above all else, Delbert was a selfless man of generosity whose goal in life was to give back to all. Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, Argus Delbert Mickel and Gladys Julia (Potts) Mickel. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Mickel of Little Rock; his sons, Jefferson Davis Mickel and his wife Cassandra Reed, of Houston, Texas, and Argus Wesley Mickel and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, of Austin, Texas; his brother, Tom Mickel, and his wife, Ashley of Conway, Arkansas. The Mickel family would like to thank everyone who gave care and compassion to Delbert during the past four years. You gave him love and encouragement that only very special people could. God bless you all. Funeral services will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, in Little Rock at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to ACCESS School, Little Rock Catholic High School for Boys and Second Presbyterian Church. Delbert was an old running buddy. We had some funney experiences in our younger days. But on a serious note, I remember sitting in the stands at a Traveler game one evening and I was worried about my own eternal well being at the time. I asked Delbert if he ever worried about dying and going to Hell. He said sharply and quickly "No." I asked why. He said "I believe in Jesus Christ." And THAT is the only correct answer there is to that question.

Delbert and I became friends through his business with mutual clients. Delbert developed a great law firm over the years and we helped each other grow our business. Delbert and I would always discuss the Razorbacks football season. I have a good friend, Mike Markuson, that coached offensive line for Houston Nutt. I would always give Delbert updates that Mike would discuss with his friends re upcoming seasons. It was a pleasure meeting Delbert at conferences. He will be missed by all in the mortgage industry. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Delbert's family.

Delbert was one of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I first met him when he came to work with the Langston Law firm and I was a secretary/receptionist for Dodds, Kidd & Ryan. Our friendship continued on through the years. I have never heard one single person ever speak an unkind word about him. His friendship was a true blessing in my life, and I shall remember him always. My deepest sympathy to his loving family. You too were blessed to have him in your lives. His memory will live on.

I have done business with Delbert for many years and, over the last few years have gotten to visit with him each year at the National Sports Collectors Convention. I would describe him as a Prince of a man. His word was his bond. We loved to talk about Baseball and SEC Football. He will not be forgotten. Best to all of his Family.

I met Mr. Mickel briefly, I knew some of the lawyers who he hired and trained and their unquestioned love and respect for him. They will daily be a credit to him and his good name which is one of the highest compliments any man can have. I am sorry he did not have more time with his family and friends.

Mr. Mickel's twinkle in his eye and bright smile will forever be missed. While he was most definitely a second dad to the Kelley boys, he was also thought of that way by us Kelley girls too. Whether it was the huge hug, the way he said, "Miss Natalie," or the so so so many wonderful memories of all the boys playing baseball under his wing, I'll never forget what a kind, inclusive and caring person he was. I feel so fortunate to have gotten to have moved back to Little Rock for a short time when I got to enjoy many pizzas at Damn Good, cookouts at the Little Red and seeing Mr. Mickel beam with pride at each of his boys weddings. All my thoughts and prayers are and will stay with Mrs. Mickel, Jeff, Wes and family. I love you all so very much. May you allow God to carry you through the toughest days. Love, Natalie

A noble man,a man of valor, a man of courage, Mr. Mickel, was a kind person, willing to help anybody. I am sadden to look in the paper and see that he has died, the legal field lost a good person a meek person, a humble person. He was the nicest lawyer I've even known. He is wearing his crown in Glory. He is in Heaven rejoicing with the Lord sing Holy,Holy Holy is his God.. God Bless you Mickel family, he will be truly missed. I am praying for you and your family.. I am going to study hard to take the LSAT to be just like Mr.Dilbert Mickel, kind, sweet and humble because the Lord did use him for his service.. Rest in peace and in love Dilbert Mickel

Delbert taught me so much about our mutual passion of vintage baseball memorabilia. As an adult, I now look back with deep appreciation for all the times he patiently gave me the time of day as a young kid. I remember Delbert at the baseball card shows in the mid 80's and he always treated me as an adult. He was a class act and it is an honor to have gained some of his vast knowledge of vintage baseball.

I will always associate Mr. Mickel with Junior Deputy Baseball, traveling to St. Louis and Dallas for baseball games, and being a great father to Jeff and Wes. He was the quintessential family man and will be missed. Prayers to Debbie and his sons.

I was so sad to hear of Delbert's passing. He was such a good friend and baseball buddy. I will always cherish the good times we had in collecting jerseys, playing ball down in Ft. Lauderdale with our Yankee heroes, and visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. One of benefits of moving my law office to the Prospect Building 10 years ago was getting to see & visit with Delbert daily. He was always upbeat even through this final illness. We are going to miss him greatly.

Delbert was a great friend. He was a Jr Deputy baseball coach that cared about each player. To share a dug out with Delbert was an honor and the players all understood they were lucky to have someone like Delbert leading the team. Delbert was a second Dad to all my children throughout their lives. We loved him like a brother and will miss him.
