Biography: RICHARD HARKEY RATLEY, 65, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Thursday, August 2, 2012. He was born July 8, 1947, in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma and L.A. Ratley; and his son, Keye Ratley. After graduating from Hall High School in 1966, Ricky attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri, for one year, where he was enrolled in the Reserved Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program. He then attended the University of Arkansas, where he was enrolled in the ROTC program and a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. While at the University he enlisted in the National Guard. He graduated from the University in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. After graduating from the University, he worked for Loyal American Life Insurance Company for the majority of his professional career. During his retirement, he spent his time reading several books a week. Ricky was a devoted father, brother, and friend. He brought love and laughter into the lives of many. Though Ricky had many attributes, he will certainly be remembered for his skill of slalom water skiing and his uncanny ability to fix anything mechanical. He was also an avid lover of animals. As a child, his favorite pets were a raccoon named "Ricky Raccoon," a parakeet named "Tweety Bird," and his beloved dog, "Rusty Ratley." Ricky is survived by Rosie Ratley; his daughter, Lauren Anne Ratley; his son, William Tyler Ratley; his sister, Robin Ratley Smith; and his nieces, Piper Smith and Molly Querdibitty. Waiting for him in Heaven are his loyal companions, Calvin I, Calvin II, Roscoe, and Jake, all rescue dogs. We will love him and miss him forever. A visitation will be held Monday, August 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at noon in the chapel at Ruebel. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Please make memorials to the Keye Ratley Memorial Fund at First Security Bank, at any branch location; or Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals (CARE), P.O. Box 7604, Little Rock, AR 72217-7604. I knew Ricky when he worked for Loyal American and I worked for the Arkansas Credit Union League. He was a very nice guy. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. God bless you all.

Dear Rosie & Family,
I will always remember Ricky as a special guy who had an ability to make everyone around him feel so comfortable in any setting. He will truely be missed and always be remembered. He was a real fiend and a hell of a poker player.

Tyler while I don?t think I ever met your dad it is apparently by being around you and hearing such wonderful things about Keye and Lauren that he was a good man. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear about Rick's death. I met him many years ago when he worked for Loyal American and I worked for Patterson Credit Union in Gum Springs. He was a very good friend and I always enjoyed visiting with him. I know he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rosie, Robin and the kids,
It is so cliche' but I am so very sorry about Ricky 's death! My memories of Ricky are only the "best" one could imagine. I lived with Ricky for two of the best and most memorable years of my life and Ricky presence and spirit made up so much of our "fun" together! Ricky was very generous and good natured person who would do "anything" to help a friend. I wish the family the best life has to offer as I now know Ricky is safe and at Home.

To Ricky's Family,
Ricky was a dear friend of mine growing up, in high school, at the University and later in adult life. I have fond memories of Ricky and our wonderful activities such as playing basketball on the First Methodist Church team, excursions to the countryside in his jeep, staying at the cabin in Hot Springs, and countless others. He was a great friend and I share your grief.

Laura, I am very sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I lost my dad unexpectedly in 2006. I can definitely empathize. I have known you for a short time in a business relationship only, but your dad can rest assured that he was successful in raising a well mannered, professional daughter.

Take care of yourself and I am very sorry for your loss.
