Biography: Carolyn Cole Hodges, 74, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Sunday August 5, 2012. She was born in Sheridan, Ark., to the late James Carlton and Sarah Elizabeth Cole. She was a graduate of Malvern High School before attending Henderson State Teachers College. Carolyn had a great love for the arts and was active in many of Arkansas cultural organizations. She and her late husband Sam were devoted patrons of Arkansas Opera Theater throughout the institutions history, attending performances at the Arkansas Art Center and following the company to its new home, in 1991, Wildwood Park. She received a special service award from the Opera Guild for outstanding leadership and service in the area of fundraising. After her husband's passing, Carolyn continued her involvement with a particular passion about educational outreach during her most recent tenure as a board member of Wildwood Park for the Arts from 2007 through 2010. Carolyn was a long time supporter of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. She was involved with their fundraising efforts and regularly attended symphony performances. She was a life member of the Arkansas Symphony Guild and frequently hosted meetings and events in her home. Carolyn was a staunch supporter of the Arkansas Art Center and participated in the traveling seminars program. She was also an active member of the UALR Friends of the Arts. She avidly supported the UALR arts with an especial enthusiasm for the new opera program there. Carolyn enjoyed supporting and working as a volunteer for the AETN foundation and Public Radio for Arkansas. Carolyn is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Hodges Winburn, Debora Hodges Moschel and husband Peter, and Sarah Hodges Webre; four grandchildren and her sister Sarah Cole Causbie. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, officiated by Reverend Michael Kuner, followed by a reception directly after at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Carolyn Cole and Sam M. Hodges Endowment for Wildwood Park for the Arts, 1400 West Markham, Suite 206, Little Rock, 72201, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 7328, Little Rock 72217, or the charity of one's choice.

Carolyn and I were always such close friends growing up in Malvern. It breaks my heart that I won't be able to attend the services today. I got up this morning with full intentions of driving to LR, but sometimes the reaction to medicine I take is pretty harsh.

Beth, I do know the pain you are going through -I lost both my brothers and I know how close the two of you were. My prayers are with you and her children - that God will ease your pain and give you the strength to cope.

Becky, Debbie, and Sarah, I was so sorry to learn of Mrs. Hodges passing. I have thought of her so often and said how I would like to stop by to visit her. Just last week ,I told my husband that I had to get by to see her. She was always kind to me , the years I worked in her home. Sarah, I remember how she would rush to make you broccoli and cheese soup when you weren't feeling well. She did love her girls ! I remember how she enjoyed the holidays. Both of your parents were special people to me , as well as each of you girls. I am sorry that I won't be able to attend her service. Ken is having a biopsy done. Your families are in my thoughts and my prayers. With much love, Phyllis

Ray and I are so sorry for your loss. Your mother and father were wonderful neighbors. We always enjoyed visiting with them when we had a chance. I just watched Carolyn late last week trim a low-hanging tree branch. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Linda & Ray Camp
