Biography: ROBERT M. WILSON, JR., lawyer and historian, died on August 3, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Robby, as he was known to all, was born April 28, 1952 to Robert M. Wilson, Sr. and Jan Herrick Wilson in Little Rock, AR. Robby attended Little Rock public schools and The Anthony School founded by his Aunt Jean Anthony, and graduated from Little Rock Hall High in 1970. He graduated from the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity, and during law school served two terms as Treasurer of the Student Bar Association. During his college years, Robby enlisted in the Arkansas Air National Guard, attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and was honorably discharged in 1976. During this period, Robby also worked on the staff of Arkansas Senator John McClellan in Washington, D.C. during the times of the Watergate Hearings. Upon graduation from law school and passing the bar, in 1978 Robby began a legal career that spanned 5 decades. Originally, he practiced law in Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1978 until 1979 as a member of Hamilton, O'Hara and Hays, and subsequently Hamilton, Mackey, Wilson, Johnson and Wood. In 1982, the firm transitioned from a full service general practice representing numerous kinds of diverse interests to one of a limited practice with real estate and tax related matters as its focus. The firm, then called Wilson & Wood, was built upon Wilson's growing mortgage banking practice and his partner?s well respected tax law practice, subsequently becoming Wilson, Wood and Hargis. In 1985 the partners parted company amicability and Robby changed the name of his practice from Robert M Wilson Jr PA to Wilson & Associates, PLLC, which has concentrated on representation of the mortgage banking industry from that time forward, growing into one of the largest law firms in Arkansas, with additional offices in Tennessee. During his legal career, Robby was admitted to the Bars of Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Arkansas, U.S. Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court. He acted as general counsel to the Arkansas Mortgage Bankers Association and has been the recipient of many awards, including: Mortgage Bankers Association of Arkansas President's Award for Excellence for 1978-1988 and again for 1993-1994, the USFN Emerald Award of Excellence (1996), USFN Award of Distinction (1996), USFN Board of Directors Service Award (1989-1994), USFN Diamond Award of Excellence (1994-2011), USFN Director of the Year Award (1990 & 1991) and the USFN Founder?s Award (2002). Robby was a Special Commissioner of the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission as well as a founding board member of the USFN, serving two terms as its original President and Chairman of the Board. During his legal career Robby was also an accomplished author and public speaker. Robby had a life-long passion for history, starting with his collection of military memorabilia as a youth and culminating with the creation in 2006 of the Wilson History & Research Center, a non-profit 501(c)(3) museum dedicated to locating, acquiring, authenticating and disseminating military headgear of the 20th Century. Launching the museum allowed Robby to concentrate his energy on developing a center for research and study regarding the development of military headgear of all nations in the 20th century. In connection with the Center, Robby co-authored the first two volumes of the book, Exotische, a series on rare and exotic headgear of the 20th century. Robby was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Arkansas Bar Foundation, University of Arkansas Foundation, American Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association, Pulaski County Bar Association, Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Arkansas Realtors Association, Texas Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Mortgage Bankers Association of Arkansas, Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association, Texas Mortgage Bankers Association, American Legal & Financial Network (ALFN), Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute and a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. Robby enjoyed and avidly pursued aviation and boating, having been a private pilot for many years, an accomplished scuba diver and loved spending time on his boat, Ghost Dancer. Robby is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his children, Robert Wilson III and Jillian Wilson, his brother, Charles Arthur Wilson, former wife and law partner, Jennifer Wilson-Harvey, and his step-mother, Jane McGehee Wilson. Robby will be remembered by the many people who knew him as a generous, passionate visionary who embraced life and lived it to its fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Wilson History & Research Center, 27 Rahling Circle. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with The Rev. Jonathon Jensen officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wilson History & Research Center, Inc., 27 Rahling Circle, Suite D-14, Little Rock, AR 72223 www.militaryheadgear.com, or UAMS Cancer Institute, 4301 West Markham St., Little Rock, AR. 72205. I am so full of emotion and heartfelt loss.... He was my best friend that asked my hand in marriage. He showed me the world in 2 years.. As we traveled he wrote books. We scuba dived in the most remote locations, we chartered boats to go where our hearts desired. There was nothing that could stop us exploring and learning from others. He was a true gentleman with a heart of gold and his great intelligence was so enticing. We came together in a time where both of us had pressures and uncomfortable circumstances. We held each other up and carried each other through. We had a whirl wind of experiences together that brought us happiness. Memories that have left an indeliable impression on my heart and mind. He was my mentor- my everything.... I miss him. My love and blessings goes to his family Robert and Jillian. He will be forever missed and loved.

I too was a founding member of the USFN. I enjoy great memories of traveling and conversing with Robby. Over the years, I lost touch with Robby and only today learned of his passing. I shall miss him, his humor and his zest for life. I'm happy that I had the opportunity to get to know him. I never met a person who, after meeting Robby, didn't feel blessed for having spent a few moments with him. The world is a better place because Robby was in it. God bless him and his family. God's grace to his family for the loss they've suffered.

I met Robby at UAMS in May 2012. I had taken my sister Gail Holmes there in hopes to get pain relief. She had stage 4 colon cancer that had progressed to her bones. In very much pain. While they were doing a MRI on Gail I had the pleasure to meet Robby. He was such an awesome man. I hung on every word he was saying. We talked for 30 minutes but in that time I thought to myself that this is the kind of person I would love to be around and visit with every day. He prayed for my sister and family. Then later that week Gail was getting her port put in and I was walking in the lobby. Robby was coming In for test. I was so impressed cuz he saw me pointed and said "hey you" and hugged my neck. He was just so impressive. I will miss him so much and I didn't even know him that well. My sister passed away on Memorial Day May 28 2012 but she was also really impressed with Robby. I'm sure they're chatting in Heaven. Healthy and Happy! I would love to sit down with some of Robby's family just to tell them how wonderful he was! Contact me if you'd like to talk. God bless and keep you all.

Robby is the best and most truest man i have ever known. I feel blessed to have had a friend like him in my life. He touched peoples hearts everyday. He was always so positive and happy and made people around him always happy with his perminate smile and funny sence of humor. Robby was a serious man at times when he works, but he also acted like a little kid, because he was just so happy all the time. He was always wanting to teach people things. Robby is the smartest man i've ever known, he had so much knowledge about everything, everywhere he went, he always shared his knowledge, he was like a walking teacher! He was the most
generous person, he constantly gave to cheritys and homeless people on the streets. His heart is golden. His soul is so pure. The best man i've ever knew. I hope i see my true friend again one day. RIP Robby. I love you. I know your looking down watching over everybody.
God Bless.

Originally sent to The Center..August 14th 2012

I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn that Robby had passed away after his tremendous and courageous fight ainst cancer.
The past three years or so must have been very tough for Robby, his family and everyone at the Center. Not once has he appeared to falter in faith, belief and determination to beat the cancer against all odds, and always with a smile.

A great all round personality, a born achiever, determined, enthusiastic, generous, with a great sense of humour and philosophy in dealing with the twists and turns of life.
We offer our sympathy and sincere condolences to the family of Robby, his relatives and friends.

Also to Jim Muir, Robert White and everyone at the Wilson History and Reseach Centre who did so much to help Robby to build, maintain, and to achieve his dream. His Memorial. Unforgettable Robby!

This, I believe, was his unspoken abiding Rule in Life....
Do all the Good you can
By all the Means you can
In all the Ways you can
In all the Places you can
At all the Times you can
To all the People you can
AS LONG AS EVER YOU CAN

With great affection and deep respect for a truly good man who enriched the lives that he touched.

Deep, Deep Peace of The Sun, Moon and Stars to you, Robby. Enjoy that Journey around the Sun that you wished for me!

Its been 30 years, but a man like Robbi is never forgotten. We met in Pat O Brien's in the French Quarter during the Arkansas-LSU game. Became friends and had plenty fun. Because he loved to have fun. Very intelligent, loved to have a good time. Obviously worked hard to earn it! I will never forget you. We all had some wonderful memorable times. I am so sorry for the families deep loss. He was just a great guy.

Too many years have passed since those youth filled days in Little Rock. Robby will always be Robby. Full of life and a joy to be around. Easy to share the moment and ready to add meaning. Although far removed from the spasdic days of of the past, I will remember fondly time spent exploring with Robby.

My heartfelt blessings to the Wilson family as you experience this loss of your patriarch. As you can clearly see in the messages posted, he was admired and loved. He truly did try to "live life to the fullest" long before his illness. My personal favorite story is the time he and Sally, and my wife and I, flew with them with Robby as pilot to Memphis for a night out. He always had a book with him, something I had not read nor ever usually heard of, and he wanted to tell me all about it. He was interesting and we all know it. Through my wife's connections we were there to sneek out late to the Fed Ex facility and fly one of the simulators. Robby spent about two hours flying an Aerbus jet, and was as happy as a schoolboy. He had a genuine warm smile and kind heart. Good-bye and rest in peace, Robby.

I met Robby when he was two years out of law school. A few years later I remember his demonstration of PALS. We became good friends and I practiced law with him from 1988 to 1994. I watched the beginning of the Wilson and Associates great journey. Robby was one of those people that just changed your life. And he meant to. He introduced me to Pattye and here we are 25 years later, married for 23 and with two daughters 22 and 19. Robby, I am so glad we got to spend time together a couple of weeks ago. It was a privilege to know you. Jack Lassiter

I was very sad to learn about Robby's death. Though we were not close friends I always felt a comfortable connection with Robby. His inclusive demeanor and charismatic personality made him so easy to speak with him. Though we competed in some states Robby always had a deal in mind. We never did a deal but Robby went on to enjoy life. The old guard is passing on and retiring however it was quite a run. My thoughts and prayers go out to my friend Jennifer and the Wilson family. I lost a friend today
He was a friend to all
I'm so sad to say
He answered the Master's call.

I find it hard to be sad
I'd known him for years
Yes, I do feel bad
He was honored by his peers

I will miss his wisdom
That twinkle in his eye
Now he has freedom
Looking down from the sky

He wouldn't want us to cry
Or even let a sigh
but to continue to try
and live life on high

I lost a friend today
I didn't say good bye
But he's just a prayer away
And we all have to die.

I did not author this poem.

To the Wilson Family my condolences

My friend Robby was much more than just a friend to those who were lucky enough to know him. He has made the last 23 years exciting. Always knowledgeable on many fronts, I always looked forward to his many lectures and opinions on many topics, all of which were always interesting. A conversationalist,an author and a father all of which he was equally proud of. He always pushed those around them to be the best that they could be. He was there for his comrades and was very proud of Robert and Jillian, beaming whenever he spoke of them. Robby traveled the world, I looked forward to his adventure reports and where he might be. He was a person who was truly on the go who definitely beat mike to his instrument rating in the 90's. He was a person who made his dreams come true and pushed those around him to do the same. He was more than generous to those in need of direction and enjoyed helping them reach their destination. He was an uberfriend and a good man who I was lucky to have been enlightened from and I do and will miss my good friend Robby with a y.

I was just one of Robby's Kappa Sigma fraternity brother's little annoying sisters when I first met him, but he treated me with all the dignity, respect, and charm as if I were royalty. He was such a gentleman to everyone, even to be so young, and my parents and my whole family adored him. What a sweet, kind, generous person he was to make everyone around him feel special. I have not seen him in decades, and yet I am wiping tears writing this. That's how special he made everyone feel who knew him. Love and prayers to his family.

May the love of Christ comfort his family...

I remember this man coming into a Christmas party and flopping this huge heavy war type helmet on my head and asking me if it fits??? I stumbled to my feet, replying something to the effect, "Iff fiffs jusff fineff" I later learned this man was Mr. Robby. My condolences to the Wilson family for their loss. Robby had a personality larger than life. He was fun to be around, but also very serious about work, and brought out the best in everyone he worked with. I had the opportunity know him on both a personal and business level. He, along with his brother, is what got me into scuba diving. He was a very successful lawyer and historian. He will be greatly missed by the community. RIP 'Robby'.

Robby and I first met in the summer of 1969 after a brief altercation in his parent's driveway. As fate would have it, we were seated right next to each other in study hall as the new school year began. Uncomfortable at first, we began to talk and thus began a great friendship upon which we never looked back. Robby was an amazing person and one of the few friends you could always count on. He taught me many things with the most important ones being non-judgemental of others and never be self-rightous. He was never passing judgement on other people and never saw himself as better than anyone else. Everyone was his friend and he was always there for them. He had a clarity of vision always focusing on the next higher level whether it be his law practice, his historic collections or his personal spiritualism. In the midst of a chaotic world he was never flustered and could always find the solutions, not dwell on the problems. He was a great friend to me and benefactor to everyone. His friendship will be dearly missed and his memory will live on with me forever!

I was a Nanny for many years for Robby and Jennifer Wilson and loved and cared for their 2 children Jillian Wilson and Robert (3) . I'm sad to learn that Robby passed away. He was a great man. He and Jennifer always treated me like family and those 2 kids were the first kids that I loved as much as if they were mine. I even nannied up until the time I had my own daughter.
I have great memories of Robbie and Jennifer and the kids. Great times on Ridgeview and the house before that. Trips to Fl with the whole family. Robby was always cool about letting me drive his cars.. which were always nice. He was funny, kind and generous. He is one of the reasons that I have a son named Wilson Daugherty... Wilson. "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years."-Abraham Lincoln. Robby filled his life with living. He touched many, befriended many, helped many, but turned away no one who asked for his help or attention. I am fortunate to have Robby as a friend, as I know others are fortunate. Robby was one of those very few people who brought out the best in every person that he touched. I was honored to know Robby for more than 25 years, and was always impressed by 3 constants in his life: His raw, unfiltered enthusiasm, his generosity, and above all, his love and devotion to Jennifer and his children. Robby's world extended past the USA and with the same zest for life he had there he transitioned to the whole of Europe what a guy ! he was always known to me as "The Boss" he gave me inspiration, belief and conviction in the pursuit of my life goals he said referred to me recently as his Brother, what a compliment from such an amazing man and we forged a bond that leaves me devastated at his loss. Such a wonderful man who cared for a UK D Day vet that he had never even met before, yet he took Bill Allen under his wing and provided him with his final dream come true which Bill thought he would never live to experience again - To revisit the beaches of D Day 65 years on. Robby's compassion for his friends and associates can never be replaced in the same way as he conveyed it in day to day life and to this end "Boss" both Bill and I salute you, go to sleep now and stand easy your duty is done.

Robby took me under his wing 27+ years ago when I first entered this business. He and Mike Barrett were great mentors not only in my professional, but also my personal life. I have learned much from Robby over the years and am so thankful to have had him as part of my life. I am truly the better for it. Thank you my dear friend. Until the day we see each other again, you will be missed dearly!!

Robby was really a generous man and a great friend. He and Jennifer raised 2 great children and I wish they all the best. The loss of Robby will be felt by many people across the country.
I'm sure Robby is in a better place and I am a better man because I knew him.

There are, for most of us, a mere hand full of people in our lives that leave indelible impressions. Robby was one of those for many of us. To me, Robby was a tried and true friend; one of the first of many friends I made in Fayetteville in the Fall of 1973. He enriched my life in many ways expanding my love of jazz, interesting me in flying, scuba diving, skiing. But mostly, he extended to me his friendship, which as we all know, was no small thing where Robby was concerned. As young adults we traveled together extensively and lived life to the fullest; whether it was flying to Dallas or Memphis on a last minute whim to see a concert (without tickets), outrunning rednecks brandishing guns in the mountains of Colorado or embellishing our status as young tycoons in Key West. For Robby, life was always and adventure and full of antics. I can see his devilish smile now daring to think the infamous question he would invariably ask ?Have you ever seen a naked man sweat?? That was our Robby. And so, my dear friend, my Samoan attorney: Fare well. You will truly be missed by many and forever remembered and admired for the boy you were and man that you became. With condolences to the family all who were privileged to know him, I am.

My deepest sympathy to Robbie's family and firm. I first met Robbie before the time the USFN was founded when we corroborated on a matter for a mutual client and I have, since that time considered him a good friend. We shared many fun times together at the USFN conventions.
The industry and the people that have known him will miss him for his leadership, personality, and friendshihp

I still remember the day (nearly 10 years ago) I met Robby Wilson. During the middle of a last minute interview (on behalf of my friend) Robby came walking smack through the middle of it. He was extremely full of life and eager to meet me, yet, at the time I had no idea who he was. I, standing at 6?2? found myself looking at a man who was clearly not my height, but just the same was obviously bigger than life and made me feel as if we were looking eye to eye. After a lightning quick whirlwind discussion mentioning his son Robert I ended up accepting the position a few days later. Unbeknownst to me, a series of lessons in life were about to begin.
Unlike a lot of professional positions one might have, mine had the frequent occasion to repeatedly and randomly require going out to Robby?s homes or other locations. The easiest way to initially explain things between Robby and I, is that we butted heads and did not get along in the beginning. I saw Robby as someone asking for the improbable and moving me out of my comfort zone and what ?I? felt was important in order to do things I wasn?t trained for or understood. For several years I wasted a lot of time and energy fighting these requests; that is, until the day I realized Robby wasn?t asking the impossible, but instead, he saw what was possible and with me he had faith that I was capable of bringing them to reality, even when I did not. The goals and ideas that I found farfetched, to Robby seemed reasonable, possible and most importantly, doable.
Robby opened up a world for me that I didn?t even know existed; and now, in my daily life I tend to have the same tendencies, the desire to wield a subject until everything that can be gained or learned from it has been accomplished. From Robby?s exposure I personally find it?s a beautiful way to live instead of always accepting the way things had previously been laid out before you.
The last five or so years Robby and I got along quite fabulously and one of his favorite thing to say when we were around with someone new was: ?I didn?t use to really like him, and he didn?t like me, but now we?re friends until the end and we realized we wasted a lot of time being wrong?.
Those calls and texts that use to cause me to mutter under my breath and cause an eye roll or two will really be missed. Like in the beginning, I may have walked in with angst, but I always walked away with a smile. Robby was a good man, and he is leaving goodness behind.

I worked for Robby at Wilson & Associates from 1988 until 1995. He was a good friend and teacher and I have always been grateful for the opportunity that I had there, and grateful to him for hiring me as a young lawyer. I always told him that he was ahead of his time when it came to technology and the practice of law and he proved me correct. I will always remember his outgoing and gregarious personality. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and extend my sincere condolences to his family.

Our deepest sympathies to Robby's family and the members of the Firm. An extraordinary lawyer and businessman, Robby's spirit for adventure and learning was an inspiration. I remember talking with him one time about his passion for history, his collection and his museum, which led me to visit the museum's website - where I spent hours one weekend reading and viewing unique and important items of the collection. In his museum, Robby left a truly remarkable legacy and historical reference point for future generations. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to know and work with Robby Wilson and he will be missed.

The most charismatic person I have ever met- it was the remarkable way he made you feel when you were in his presence. That charm, combined with his extraordinary vision, intellect, and passion made him a greatleader and an inspiration to me and to all those whose life he touched. Everyone's favorite. Everyone's friend. It is a tremendous, gut wrenching loss. I feel so very sad. My condolences to his family.

Robby and I were friends and enjoyed a warm, wonderful professional relationship. I loved his fighting spirit; and after I retired, I remember our phone conversation when he said, " I'm going to lick this, Murray." We always ended with, "I love you, Robby" and he replied, "I love you, Murray."

I love you, Robby, and will miss you dearly.

My heart is heavy in having to say goodbye to someone who influenced my life so greatly. Robby was a true friend and mentor to me and an inspiration to all who knew him. He combined brilliance, passion and innovation into everything he did and as a result, he made this world a better place. I often described him as a combination of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, but with a law degree.

Robby was someone that I admired within the first five minutes of us meeting and my admiration of him never ceased to grow. I want to express my sincere condolences to Jennifer, their children, and all of his family. He will truly be missed.

How can one express in words of the treasures deposited in your life by someone such as Robby? The fortune of my life is that of having been blessed by so many sincere, passionate and caring persons, but from my heart I can honestly say that none can compare with Robby. I experienced much joy and satisfaction working with him and being by his side in so many areas of his life, especially in the fulfilment of his dream, the Wilson History & Research Center. He told me that it was his "dream come true". Robby was a time traveler in history. I'll miss those trips with him. Robby was my mentor, but above all he was my friend. I loved him and he will always have a place in my heart. I thank my Lord for him and for my life now so much richer from having known him. Cheryl, my wife, and I extend our love and prayers to all of Robby's family.

The true measure of a person's life is the impact he or she has on others. By this measure, Robby was a great man. His passion for everything - work and play - was catching. His insight - freely given - was always appreciated. You couldn't help but enjoy yourself whenever you were with Robby. Robby brought me into the USFN and continued for many years as my mentor, confidant and friend. He enriched my life both professionally and personally. Mikki and I will miss him greatly. We enjoyed every moment we ever spent with him and he will remain a part of our lives forever. God speed, Robby.

I worked for Wilson & Associates from July'11-May'12. I got to know Robbie through all the emails he sent, keeping us updated on his health, as well as sharing words of enlightenment. I kept he and his family in my prayers all the time. Though I only had maybe 3 personal encounters with him, I can say that he was a very inspiring person. Me leaving the firm in May was bittersweet, and even moreso now. Robbie, you fought a good fight. Now you can rest well knowing that your life enriched others. Rest in Love...

I met Robby 43 years ago and we were best friends through many trials and tribulations. Every time I every doubted that he was going to accomplish a goal, he proved me wrong. Just when you thought it could not be done he did it. He valued his friends almost to a fault. I was fortunate to be with him from undergraduate school until now. We traveled the world over an no matter where we went, it was true adventure. I never doubted his loyalty and friendship for a second. I have never known a friend that knew what I was going to do before I did it with the exception of Robby. Robby faced plenty of adversity during his career but continued to persevere and never look back. He was always true to his friends and could be trusted to do the right thing each time. The mother of his children, Jennifer coundn't have asked for a better visionary and business partner. Robby always had a big smile on his face and tried to help his friends and family.God Speed

As many know, Robby and I have been close friends for over over 25 years. As two of the founding members of the USFN, we became fast friends and truly enjoyed each others company. Traveling to Europe in 2003 to see the Montreux Switzerland Jazz festival, and birthdays in St.Marteen. Hanging out together at mortgage banking conferences and helping establish the USFN as the leading group of mortgage banking attorneys in the country. We always enjoyed sharing time together and sharing points of interest in our lives. You were such a generous person and helped teach me to be generous as well. We had a shared mutual respect and admiration.

I have never met a person such as you. Your mind is so keen and remembers so much. Total recall on so many items. Amazing to hear you espouse on numerous subjects. Brilliant many would say.

Your dedication to your children. Remembering your "March to the Sea" to visit Robert at camp one summer. An amazing journey!!

A person so unique in so many ways. Was a true pleasure to be in your company and to be your friend.

Robby, I love you man and will never forget you.
