Biography: Lois Gladys Holcomb, 97, of Little Rock, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012. She was born on April 2, 1915 in Little Rock. at her parent's small dairy on the corner of Fair Park Blvd and Asher Avenue. She lived her entire life in the Little Rock area and her favorite team was Arkansas Razorback anything. Lois, along with her husband, Bob, was a founding member of Riverdale Country Club (now Pleasant Valley Country Club) and was a Sustaining Member of The Arkansas Kennel Club having joined the club in 1958. Lois began her "dog life" as an owner/breeder of championship Pomeranians in 1958, quickly moved on to the business of showing many other breeds as a professional handler and finished her career as a very respected all-breed judge. Lois was very proud to say she had judged dog shows in almost every state in the union. One of her most exciting shows was in Beverly Hills, California where Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa Zsa Gabor sat in the audience as she judged the Yorkshire Terriers. At the age of 84, Lois was thrilled to win her first embroidery Best in Show at the Arkansas State Fair but her favorite thing to do was to watch the sport and musical activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, J. Robert Holcomb, Sr.; her great-grandson, Brad LeNarz and her sister, Jean Mancinas. She is survived by her son, J. Robert Holcomb, Jr. and his wife Carol, of Little Rock; her daughter, Barbara Holcomb Penney and her husband Butch, of Roland; her grandchildren, Todd Holcomb and his wife, Debbie, Jim Penney and his wife, Wendy, Melissa Penney Moore, and Brian Holcomb and his wife, Tahirih. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Erin LeNarz, Robyn Holcomb Coles and her husband Andrew, RJ Moore, Mitchell Moore, Katherine Penney, Jake Penney, David Holcomb and Savannah Holcomb; her sister and brother-in-law Carolynn and Omar Felipe and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Mother was a kind and loving woman who was a good example to all around her. She is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 5 to 7 at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock, Arkansas. There will be a graveside service at 11:30 on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Pinecrest Memorial Park with Brother Robert McDaniel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Arkansas Kennel Club, 1617 Britney Drive, Sherwood. AR 72120. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

When I first joined EHC after retirement, some of
the first folks I met were Barbara & her lovely mother, Lois. Lois was always happy to be at all the activities & was always so beautiful. She came to the State Fair with Barbara & enjoyed seeing all the lovely crafts. She was an inspiration to all around her. Her family will have such great memories or a great lady to help them through their sorrow.
