Biography: Margaret Jean Ellis Edwards, 82, of North Little Rock, passed away, Thursday, May 10, 2012. She was born in Little Rock on June 15, 1929, the only child of Dr. Matt and Alice Ellis. The family moved from Arkadelphia to Conway where Jean would graduate from Conway High School and later Hendrix College where her father was president. After college Jean moved to Dallas for a job in sales with Neiman Marcus. She married her high school sweetheart Bud in 1955 and spent the first two years traveling with him for his job through Ohio and Indiana before settling in North Little Rock. After 20 years as a homemaker and volunteer for numerous organizations, Jean took a position as Volunteer Director, RSVP Program of Pulaski County. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, a sustaining member of the Jr. League of NLR and a member of the Park Hill Garden Club. Most of all she loved her time with family and friends. And she especially loved to cook. And we, her family, loved that she loved it. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband and is survived by her three sons, Jay (Kathy) of Little Rock, Dean of North Little Rock and Bill (Lauren) of Germantown, TN; and grandchildren Matt, Alexis, Maurie, Dawson, Blake and John. We loved her very much and she will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 14, 2012. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church. You may sign the guestbook at www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Dr. Ellis was my philosophy professor at Hendrix, but Jean and I didn't meet until years later when we were both managing volunteer programs in Little Rock. She was a complete delight--kind, loving, optimistic, and bubbly, a model of a Christian life well lived. I loved her very much and so regret that she and I had not seen each other in way too long. We have all lost a fine Southern lady. My sincere condolences to the family she loved so completely.

Jean was a great lady, and a wonderful friend to enjoy! Her beautiful laugh and smile were so much a part of her, and her picture here is very fitting. She will be missed by so many friends who loved her very much. We are grateful that she was a joy in our lives.

I loved Jean Edwards. She became a friend through tennis-playing days at Burns Park. Then I had a chance to work with her some when she was at the RSVP office. I loved her caring ways and her outgoing personality. She was a great lady and she leaves a wonderful legacy behind. God bless her three sons; Dean I knew better than the others; and to them I would say, "You had a wonderful mother."

Sorry to hear about the passing of Jean. I worked with the Foster Graqndparent Program, sister agency RSVP. We would often laugh about being cousins (I'm black), always a good person to be around. She will be missed.

Jay, our mom's worked together at RSVP and picked us up after work when you were at T J Raney and I was at Commercial National Bank. They always had a cup of ice for us on really hot afternoons. My mom, Mary Anne Baker, told me of Jean's passing this morning. My prayers are with you and your family.

Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ did weep at the grave of Lazarus his friend, look, we beseech Thee, with compassion upon those who are now in sorrow and affliction (Jay, Dean, Bill and their familes); comfort them, O Lord, with Thy gracious consolations. Make them to know that all things work together for good to them that love Thee; and grant them evermore sure trust and confidence in Thy fatherly care; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
