Biography: Rick Redden, architect, died on March 27th, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock following a year-long battle with cancer. He was 63. Rick was born in 1948 in Fort Smith. He attended the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville, was a Sigma Nu, and graduated from the School of Architecture in 1971. After University, he lived and worked in Zurich and London for three years. After returning home to Arkansas, Rick was an intern, was licensed and then practiced architecture at The Cromwell Firm until 1982. Rick, Jimmy Moses and John Allison formed "Allison Moses Redden, Architecture, Interiors and Planning" in July, 1982. "Allison Moses Redden" evolved into "AMR Architects, Inc.", and when Jimmy Moses and John Allison each began new firms, Rick remained as the founding member. AMR's early architectural work includes Heritage East, Heritage West, Little Rock's Fletcher Library, Little Rock River Market, War Memorial Fitness Center, and The Museum of Discovery. Later work includes Arkansas Capital Commerce Center, 300 3rd Tower and River Market Tower with developer, Moses Tucker. Rick loved his frequent trips to Russellville and Ozark for visits with David Moseley, Dr. Robert Brown and the University staff to work on campus design for Arkansas Tech University. Rick loved playing and listening to music of all genres. He was a drum major in his Fort Smith Junior High band, played alto sax in a high school dance band, played the banjo, piano and guitar. Rick loved wine and loved to sketch. He lived in, worked in, designed for, and passionately loved downtown Little Rock. Rick was predeceased by his mother, Rue Williams and his brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his wife, Soon Young and by his daughter from his first marriage, Kate East (Chris) of Little Rock. He is also survived by adopted children, Matthew and Hannah of Seattle Washington and by his father, Wayne, and his brother, Roger, both of Van Buren, Arkansas. Rick's family would like to thank his dedicated doctors Dean Kumpuris, Johnny Jones and Joe Beck and they know that Rick would send a special wink to his constant friends and caregivers Lee, Eleanor, Jimmy, Mary Lou, Bob, and the other members of the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Wesley Class who tirelessly supported him on this journey. A celebration of Rick?s life will be Monday, April 2, 5:30 pm at The Museum of Discovery in Little Rock.
