Biography: Rick Redden, architect, died on March 27th, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock following a year-long battle with cancer. He was 63. Rick was born in 1948 in Fort Smith. He attended the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville, was a Sigma Nu, and graduated from the School of Architecture in 1971. After University, he lived and worked in Zurich and London for three years. After returning home to Arkansas, Rick was an intern, was licensed and then practiced architecture at The Cromwell Firm until 1982. Rick, Jimmy Moses and John Allison formed "Allison Moses Redden, Architecture, Interiors and Planning" in July, 1982. AMR's early architectural work includes Heritage East, Heritage West, Little Rock's Fletcher Library, Little Rock River Market, War Memorial Fitness Center, and The Museum of Discovery. Later work includes Arkansas Capital Commerce Center, 300 3rd Tower and River Market Tower with developer, Moses Tucker. Rick loved his frequent trips to Russellville and Ozark for visits with David Moseley, Dr. Robert Brown and the University staff to work on campus design for Arkansas Tech University. Rick loved playing and listening to music of all genres. He was a drum major in his Fort Smith Junior High band, played alto sax in a high school dance band, played the banjo, piano and guitar. Rick loved wine and loved to sketch. He lived in, worked in, designed for, and passionately loved downtown Little Rock. Rick was predeceased by his mother, Rue Williams and his brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his wife, Soon Young and by his daughter from his first marriage, Kate East (Chris) of Little Rock. He is also survived by adopted children, Matthew and Hannah of Seattle Washington and by his father, Wayne, and his brother, Roger, both of Van Buren, Arkansas. Rick's family would like to thank his dedicated doctors Dean Kumpuris, Johnny Jones and Joe Beck and they know that Rick would send a special wink to his constant friends and caregivers Lee, Eleanor, Jimmy, Mary Lou, Bob, and the other members of the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Wesley Class who tirelessly supported him on this journey. A celebration of Rick?s life will be Monday, April 2, 5:30 pm at The Museum of Discovery in Little Rock. To continue Rick?s initiative of adding trees to enhance downtown Little Rock, memorials may be made to? Sculpture at the River Market?, 417 N University Ave, Little Rock, AR 72205, with ?Rick Redden Memorial Tree Fund? in the memo line. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

I was so sad to learn of Rick's passing. I worked with Rick at the Cromwell firm when I began working there in 1979.

Rick had one overriding and endearing quality. He treated everyone the same.

I am very saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I had the privledge of working with Rick about 30 years ago at Cromwell, when he was a rising star and I was still wet behind the ears. I will never forget his easy-going laid back style and outlook on life. But when it came to design, Rick would hit it out of the park every time.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his immediate, extended, and professional families. His is a great loss to everyone.

Rick won my heart when he took on the task of teaching my daughter and Kate to drive over at War Memorial. He was a brave man. I will miss his sharp focus and smile.
