When I began working out at Jim Dailey (then War Memorial) I met Bennye and was in love with her zest for life! Once after we met for lunch she showed me the interesting plants she had in her yard and gave me a cutting of a rose bush. She said the plant was the result of a cutting given to a member of her family by a Japanese man in a prisoner of war camp in CA. The man had brought it from his home trying to sustain life as he had known it. Each time the rose blooms I thank Bennye!

I met Bennye when my father bought the drug store in Plainview in1938. Even tho she was older by 5 years there was a lot of kids there that paled around together. My older brother, Bill. was more her age but we would get together on Sunday afternoon. Later after several years she had a party in her home for those who knew her. Mother, Kathleen Strickland and I were among the visitors. I never knew anyone who didn't love Bennye and we have lost contact since we have aged. I shall always remember her and the Sheltons, Choats and others who are long gone. God Bless her family for I know she loved them all dearly. Sharon Hamilton is our daughter and she received a Christmas card from her as Sharon is trying to write a history of Plainview and had contacted her.

Bennye had a zest for life and learning I very much admired. Not afraid of being her own person and always friendly. She will be missed by those who knew her. I extend sympathy to all her family.
