Biography: Ivell Haley went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2012. She was born October 6, 1905, and was one of Arkansas? oldest citizens. She was 106 years old. Ivell was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Clara Nye of Salem, Oregon, and by a sister Mary Kellogg, and two brothers, Vernon and Merle Nye. She was also preceded in death by her only son, Boyd Haley of Little Rock. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ruth Haley of Little Rock; Granddaughter, Dianna Wilson and her husband Stan of Maumelle; granddaughter, Heather Smith and her husband Wayne of Cabot; great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Marty Smith of Cabot; Eric Wilson of Maumelle, and Emily Piechocki and her husband Evan of Shannon Hills. Ivell?s grandparents, John S. and Mary Nye were some of the first settlers in the state of Oregon, travelling across the Oregon Trail in 1849. Historic Nye Beach near Portland is named after the family. The Nye families were originally seafarers of Scandinavian descent, and Ivell?s strong linage can be traced back to the Eleventh Century. Ivell Haley not only had many years on earth, she had many quality years. Ivell was a supervisor in a Laundry in Salem, Oregon, which was her home town until retiring and moving to Arkansas in 1977 (at the age of 72). Ivell was a member and officer of the Eastern Star and the Amaranth in Salem, Oregon. She stayed at home in Little Rock until she was 99 when she moved to the nursing home because she was tired of ?cleaning house and climbing stairs.? She was sharp mentally and physically until recent months, and other than a few antibiotics in recent years never took any prescription medications. She was rarely sick, and never had anything stronger than Tylenol even after four screws were placed in her hip at age 103. She claims to have never had a headache in her entire life, a testimony to her rare physical gifts. The family wishes to thank the excellent caregivers at The Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ivell was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. Funeral services will be at the church on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, with arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
