Biography: Bertha Steube, 85, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2006. She was surrounded by family after battling a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. She was cared for lovingly at home by her daughter, Barbara Anderson – Tegethoff and her husband Alan Tegethoff. She is survived also by her son, Frederick C. Steube and his wife, Mattie of Searcy, her daughter Karin Steube –Vollrath and her husband Mark Vollrath of New Jersey and her youngest daughter Nancy Haese of Kingsville, Texas. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Heather Anderson, Tonya Ridenour, Doogie and Chelsea Vollrath, Erin, Amy and Drew Haese and Cole Ridenour, great-grand child. She has one surviving cousin; Phyllis Ann Kuhns of St. Louis, MO. Bertha was cared for by Ms. Alice Woods who was her earthly “angel” throughout her days of darkness. The family would also like to thank the Home Health Care Division of the VA, the VA Adult Day Care Center and Mrs. Dee Lubke for love and care given to Mrs. Steube during her illness. Bertha entered the U.S. Army on August 5, 1943 in New York, New York and was granted an Honorable Discharge on February 22, 1946. As a sergeant she served as a secretary/clerk in the Intelligence Division. She was awarded the Women’s Army Corps Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, three Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and was issued a Lapel Button. She served at Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Army of the United States. She traveled to England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and served under General Jimmy Doolittle. Her stay in the service prompted her allegiance to our Country as she continued to work with the American Legion and serving as a Chaplin with the Kingsville, Texas Chapter of the VFW. She loved serving in the WAAC. She loved gardening, cooking, fishing and will be greatly missed by her family. At the time of her death she was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. The family will be visiting with friends on Sunday, August 27, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 28, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Steube will be buried with Full Military Honors at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
