Biography: Wenonah Fay Baughn Holl passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 in Little Rock Arkansas. Born August 19, 1915, she was the daughter to the late R.N. Baughn and Zearl Russell Baughn in Belleville, Arkansas and moved to Conway when she was a year old and called central Arkansas home. She was married to Gordon Hain Holl in 1942. She received her education in the Conway Public Schools and obtained her bachelor degree from the University of Central Arkansas. She attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin and Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. Wenonah worked as a high school teacher in the Delta and a College Professor at Hendrix, UCA, and Peabody. Wenonah shared a passion for the arts and humanities with her husband and remained involved as administrators, teachers, and supporters well into retirement. As Wenonah once put it, ?she only retired from a paycheck.? Wenonah?s primary desire was to open up new vistas for others so that they, too, could know the richness of living and enjoying every day? the little as well as the big things. A memorial service for Wenonah will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

I meet Wenonah Fay through Sheila Parsons-Talley and she became a blessing to me as well. When ever we went into Little Rock, we usually stopped to visit with her. Sheila included me, to help decorate her appartment during the Christmas season. This year, what to do? This much I do know; Wenonah Fay and her sweet husband, Gorden are celebrating this Christmas together again... and that makes me smile.

I adopted Gordon and Wenonah Fay after my parents died. They didn't have any children (biological that is) and I didn't have parents. They, in truth, had adopted me long ago. Including me in their circle of friends and admirers. We had many wonderful times together, like driving in my convertible up to Petit Jean Mountain with the Hallelujah Chorus blasting away one cold but sunny winter day. Yesterday I was in a store and found myself in tears. Christmas decorations reminded me of the box in my attic marked Christmas decor for Wenonah Fay. Where will I put those this year? WF and Gordon you were an inspiration to me, a rock in tough times and a joy always.
Hark, heaven has a couple of new angels.

Wenonah Fay was such a dear friend to my husband and me. We visited Gordon and Wenonah Fay shortly before I was to take my doctoral oral exams. When I expressed my fear of not being able to remember important information, without hesitation Wenonah Fay gave me a small brass elephant from her precious collection. She told me I could put him in my pocket and he would help me during the exam because "elephants never forget." He did bring me luck and now I think of Wenonah Fay every time I see him on my desk. Wenonah Fay, we will never forget you and Gordon.

Wenonah Fay and Gordon were true lovers of music. They were such a big part of the UCA Friends of Music. They volunteered so many times to help fold programs or address envelopes. To the family, I am so very sorry for your loss. She was special.

Gordon and Wenonah Fay were like adoptive grandparents to me. We met when I was 7 years old and Wenonah Fay loved to tell the story of that first encounter and how we sat out under a shade tree trying to escape the hot August Arkansas sun while my father and Gordon met in the AVCEP building. It was the beginning of a long, happy, richly rewarding relationship. I feel so blessed to have been pulled into their orbit so many years ago. Rest well Wenonah Fay. You will be sorely missed.
