Biography: Eugene Philip McGlauflin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (White) McGlauflin; daughter Margaret M. Feurtado, M.D. and son-in-law Earl Feurtado, M.D.; and daughter Mary Cooper McGlauflin, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his adored grandsons Philip, Shelby, and Matthew Feurtado, also of Little Rock, and by many nieces and nephews who loved him. He was predeceased by his parents George E. and Margaret (Flaherty) McGlauflin; his brothers Richard, Robert, Donald, and George; and his sisters Dorothy Hinchliffe, Elizabeth, and Margaret. Gene was born in South Portland, Maine on July 15, 1922, and always deeply loved his home state, vacationing on its coast in the summers. He received his A.B. degree from Bowdoin College and his M.B.A. from the Columbia Graduate School of Business. Captain McGlauflin was a fighter pilot in Italy during WWII, flying P-51 Mustangs with the 308th Squadron, 31st Fighter Group, 15th Air Force. He ended his business career by retiring from Arkansas Power & Light, where for 26 years he had been Director of Corporate Services. He served as a board member of Southeast Mental Health; was active with the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the United Fund, and the Salvation Army; and for decades enjoyed the companionship of four different men's lunch and coffee groups. He was a man of quiet and deep faith, attended services every Sunday, and for many years taught Sunday School. He was dedicated to St. James United Methodist Church, which he attended since he and his family moved to Little Rock from Pine Bluff in 1977. Gene is remembered for his sweet smile, devotion to his family, and love of lifetime learning. He read constantly, especially enjoying science, literature, the economy, and politics. His family and friends enjoyed being with him because of his encyclopedic knowledge of the world, and his love of life and people (and all sports, especially snow-skiing and Razorback football). He had a special relationship with his three college-age grandsons, and attended their music and sports events. With Philip he talked enthusiastically about physics, poetry, and history; with Shelby he opened and managed a joint stock market account; and Matthew basked in his grandfather's full attention after his older brothers went off to college. Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock on Friday, October 28th from 5-7 p.m. The memorial service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, Saturday, October 29th at 10 a.m. Donations in his name to his church would be a meaningful tribute. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Dot. Audrey and I were very sorry to hear of Genes passing. We were unable to attend his funeral because of our health problems. We have fond memories of Gene and your family. He was one of the good guys. I regret that I didnt know he was a fighter pilot in ww2. We could have told each other some tall tales. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

I am very sorry for your loss. Mr. McGlauflin always took time to visit with me at church when I was a child.

Mr. McGlauflin was a gentleman to his fingertips. He was also a very fair and astute businessman who accomplished a lot for AP&L. It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to know. him. He will certainly be missed.

My life is filled with happy and joyful memories from my childhood until two weeks ago when Uncle Gene looked through this WWII scrapbook talking about his adventures. His sweet smile and graceful demeanor was always there for anyone who was around him. And, of course, there was always a meaningful and enlightening conversation on any topic. I will miss him dearly at our family reunions and parties and cherish all the years of happiness that he brought to me. My love to Aunt Dorothy, Mary and Margaret.

I knew Gene when I worked at AP&L @ 9th & La. He always came by with that beautiful smile & brightened a bad day. I told him one time that AP &L would be a perfect place to work if everyone was like him. His picture on this obt. is just the way to remember him. I know his family will miss him dearly. Please take comfort in your wonderful memories, your faith & your friends.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dot and all the family. I joined AP&L a few years prior to Gene's retirement and quickly came to admire both his intellect and his gentle nature. Since my retirement 5 years ago, I've had many wonderful visits with Gene in various retiree gatherings and have learned so much from him. The world is a much better place because of Gene's life among us. His friends will miss him greatly.

Gene was such a wonderful friend and amazing character. I always enjoyed his insights into the stock market. We knew Gene from the Entergy/AP&L family and will miss him tremendously. We will always remember him like this picture-handsome and fun-loving. Dot and their family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Mr. McGlauflin at AP&L ... he was my Director when I worked in Corporate Services. He was always approachable, kind, considerate ... he and his wife gave me a lovely wedding present that I still have on display in my home. More than once they came by to see the progress we were making when we were building our house. What boss does this? I recently saw him at Baptist-Health Medical Center and recognized him immediately even though I hadn't seen him in years. He looked wonderful as did his beautiful wife! I am saddened to hear of his passing. My sincerest condolences to Mrs. McGlauflin and all his family and friends.

Memories of the sweetest man/boss whom I ever worked for. Mr. McGlauflin gave me the most awesome opportunity to progress in my career with AP&L/Entergy. I will forever remember him as a very business-smart and worldly-smart man. He taught me so much and I am thankful for having had him in my life. My condolences to his family and know that he is in a MUCH better place. I loved him!
