Biography: Margaret A. (?Peggy?) Schell, of Little Rock, died September 4, 2011. She was born February 25, 1945, in Little Rock. She was the daughter of the late Rosalie S. and Robert L. Schell, of Bauxite, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband, W. Wilson Jones, of Little Rock. Peggy spent her first four years in Dutch Guyana (now Surinam), where her father was a mining engineer for Alcoa. The family returned to Bauxite, and Peggy graduated from Bauxite High School in 1963. She kept in close touch with her friends from those years. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1967 (B.S., summa cum laude), where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, and Zeta Tau Alpha. She earned her Ph. D. in clinical psychology from the University of Texas in 1975. For more than 30 years, Peggy engaged with devotion in the clinical practice of psychology in Little Rock under the name of University Psychological Services. Second only to her practice, Peggy loved the performing arts, especially ballet and opera and most especially, theater. She served as the assistant director for productions of Community Theater of Little Rock, beginning with ?The Shadow Box? in 1976, and continuing in that role with several productions at CTLR and U.A.L.R. with her friends, Wayne Chapman or Judy Baker Goss, as directors. She especially liked reading Judy?s original scripts and offering preliminary critiques. She served as a board member of CTLR and Ballet Arkansas. She attended a very large number of theater productions in New York, Chicago, London, and Little Rock. Above all, she favored New York City, where she often saw three plays a day. The Razorbacks and the Atlanta Braves commanded Peggy?s loyalty and acute observation, but she enjoyed watching other sports, too. She enjoyed sailing on Greers Ferry and her sailboat suppers were notable events. She took much pleasure in selecting and exquisitely wrapping gifts for family members and friends. Peggy is also survived by and loved by her sister-in-law, Ann Jones Clayton and her husband, Michael R. Clayton, of Benton; her loving and beloved niece, Beth Clayton and her partner, Patricia Racette, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her loving and beloved niece, Shelley Clayton Gentry and her husband, W. Brooks Gentry, of Little Rock, and her great niece and nephew, Sterling and Clayton Gentry. Her nephew, John Clayton, died in 2008. Peggy and Wilson hosted four AFS high school exchange students. Christoffer Gramming (of Sweden ), Eduard Prus (from Russia but residing now in Texas ), Stefan Ludwig (of Germany ), and Denis Zamboni (of Italy ) each spent a year in their home.. The students grew up but maintained close, affectionate ties with their ?host parents? and have returned many times to their Arkansas family. Peggy is survived by many close friends and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. There will be a graveside ceremony at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Hwy. 5, Alexander, AR at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8. A reception will be held that day at Trapnall Hall from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (423 East Capitol Avenue). All are invited to both the ceremony and the reception. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Repertory Theater (601 Main Street, Little Rock AR 72201) or AFS USA (One Whitehall Street, Second Floor, New York NY 10004) or a favorite charity.

I am deeply saddened to just now find out that Margaret Schell passed away in 2011. I probably missed the news because I was working in Chicago at the time.

Dr. Schell was one of my favorite professors at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. I had her for several classes in 1977. She had just previously gotten her Phd from the Univ. of Texas, and we students thought the world of her.

She was intelligent, beautiful, kind and wise beyond her years. She made an indelible impression on me, and I will miss her patience, warmth and sincerity.

Dear Attorney Jones and Family,

Peggy was a lifeline for me when I most needed someone with her expertise, kindness and compassion. Although she was such a bright light in your life and the lives of so many others, as attested to by the many comments in this condolence ledger, what I cherish most about her was her ability to help me (and others) come through the darkness and let my light shine.

My deepest sympathy,

Adjoa A. Aiyetoro

Mr. Wilson,

For close to 20 years, I have worked in the same building with your wife. We never officially met, but once in a while we would see each other out away from the office and smile a smile of recognition at each other. She was always beautifully dressed and gracious and knowing the kind of life work she did, I can only believe that she was as beautiful and gracious on the inside as well. I think the comments of all your friends attest to that. I am so sorry for your loss.

Wilson and family,
Peggy had such a great influence on my life. Her sweet disposition and loving presence inspired me to be a better person. I had lost contact with her for years but finally just a few months ago through another friend who lived on the seventh floor in Hotz Hall where Peggy served as our RA, was able to reconnect. I am so thankful that I got to talk to her again if only by phone. Was hoping that we would get to see her again at one of our Zeta reunions.
She will be missed so much. May the Lord comfort you and bless you all as you lay her to rest today. Love you so much, Lana

Our friendship with Peggy began in 1977, shortly after we had moved to Little Rock. For almost three decades we shared many adventures, beginning with Mikhail Baryshnikov's performance in Jackson, Mississippi. We followed him to Austin and Dallas, traveling on to Houston even without tickets. As Peggy and I stood in the basement parking lot, holding cash in the air and announcing our need to purchase tickets, a very kind man gave us two front and center seats.

A year or so later, we had another adventure when attending an opera in Memphis. Since we all know that Peggy always put her clients first, we left Little Rock almost too late to make the performance. Agreeing to try anyway, I drove my Datsun 280Z as fast as it would go, arriving with only minutes to spare. As the lights started to dim, I spotted two empty seats. I whispered to Peggy that our ?Front and Center Angel? had left those for us and was she game to move. Agreeing, we quickly reseated ourselves and enjoyed another great performance. Through the years, we recalled the celebrated cast, the speeding car, which I barely controlled, and, once again, our front and center seats.

One of my dearest memories of Peggy?s understated wit was the first day she stood at the wheel of her new sailboat. As I offered her sunscreen, she replied, ?No thank you. Let?s throw caution to the wind.? It is a remark that we referenced whenever we hesitated to try another adventure and a remark that I continue to replay whenever I need courage or fortitude.

Fast forwarding through years of birthday parties, Peabody Eight road trips and Dickey-Barnes New Year?s Eve celebrations, I recall another Peggy moment at their 25th Anniversary party. As family and friends were toasting them, Don encouraged Peggy to seize the moment and at least taste the champagne. With all eyes upon her, she flashed a smile at Wilson and raised her glass to take the smallest of sips with the entire room giving her a standing ovation.

"A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever" (Isaiah 40:3-8 ESV).
