Biography: H. Dane Harris, Jr. 54, of Little Rock, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 in Wilton, Iowa as a result of a helicopter accident while performing the job he loved. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on October 30, 1956 to the late H. Dane Harris and Marcella Sellars Harris. Dane was an avid golfer from childhood. He won numerous golf titles including multiple city and state championships as a teenager. He received a golf scholarship to LSU and went on to play on the professional golf tour. While still managing the Town Pump, he never gave up flying and when someone called, he could not resist the opportunity to fly. In every one of his professional endeavors as well as his personal life, Dane always went out of his way to help people and was a true friend to many. I was so sorry to hear of Dane's accident. He and I grew up together. He took me to my senior prom at Lakeside in his convertible Jaguar. We both loved martial arts and through the years, we ran into each other about every 10 years or so. In 1986, we ran into each other at a Luau in Little Rock. In 1998, we ran into each other in Montgomery, Alabama. He was crop dusting and I was working networking the Army Recruiting Stations. He told me he was living in the Carolinas then. He was a great friend and a lifelong friend. When my husband of 34 years passed away in 2012, I looked Dane up and discovered he had had a helicopter accident and died. I will always miss his smile and love for people. He sure loved flying his helicopter. RIP Dane.

Leigh, I am heartbroken for you at the sudden passing of your father. It is a devastating blow to a child, no matter their age. He was much too young to lose his life, and he will be terribly missed by all those who love him.

There are many who wish to be a source of strength to you, never be afraid or reluctant to grab hold of the hands that are reaching to support you as you go through this terrible time.

I knew Dane from when he was young and everyone called him "Little Dane" and then later as a young adult. What a looker he was. He always had a smile and a calm about him that seemed to make others calm. He made an impact on my life and probably never knew it. He will be greatly missed! My heart and prayers go out to his family. May your memories comfort during this tragic time.

I went to Ramble School with Dane and remember him as so cute with a great smile. I was invited to one of his birthday bashes at Belvedere which everyone enjoyed. Later my family moved on Glendale Drive off Malvern and were neighbors with the Austin's{Dane's aunt, uncle, and cousins}.To all Dane's family my prayers are that you be comforted during this time and for the days ahead. Dane will be greatly missed but what a legacy he has left and how many people he has touched through his life.

Although we are cousins, Dane Jr was younger and we never were together much growing up, but I do remember fondly times of our childhood when we were together. I know our dad's were close as children and the families kept up with each other. I can remember times at the Tillery Reunion when Aunt Hattie would bring her grandchildren, and of the fun we had playing together. Good childhood memories.

My prayers are with the family at this time of sorrow. May the Lord provide comfort and strength as it is needed. You have many great memories of Dane Jr. They will put smiles on your face. Think of him often.

Dane was a unique individual. My grandfather, Sam Sargo, helped to build the old Belvedere Club for Mr. Jacobs. Dane's father eventually had the responsibility and ownership of Belvedere and was a friend of my father Bill Sargo.

While growing up near Belvedere, Dane Jr. would frequent our fireworks stand and we became friends from childhood through high school. I remember him as a fun-loving, energetic person who loved life and experiencing it to the fullest.

Although I have not seen him in many years, I will always remember him for the joy of life he had and a smile that was sure to win over a new friend and warm the hearts of old friends.

My sympathies to all the family.
