Biography: Martha Jean Blakney, age 93, passed away at her home in Little Rock on June 29th. She was born in North Little Rock, attended Ouachita Baptist College, was a proud member of the Women's Army Corps (WACS) during World War II and was retired from the Little Rock District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. She was a longtime member of Little Rock First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin D. Blakney and brothers, Charles Owens and Carthel Owens. She is survived by her son, John Thomas Blakney of Little Rock; daughter Jean Maier Dean and son-on-law David A. Dean of Dallas, Texas, Eleanor Blakney Karam of Little Rock; nephews Anthony Owens of Little Rock ,Gary Owens of Dallas and the late William Owens of Russellville. Her final months were comforted by her excellent team of care givers including Janie Jackson, Cleora Lowe, Freddie Phillips and Janice Samms; they are now a beloved part of our extended family. Funeral services will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Jim Munns. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
