Biography: Nancy Ann Lambert Pfeifer, 74, of Little Rock, died Saturday, June 4, 2011. She was born May 19, 1937, in Albany, NY, to the late Anna Warnefeld Lambert and Raymond Stewart Lambert. She grew up in Cobleskill, NY, received her BA from Stanford University, and moved to Little Rock in 1961. As a champion of both the arts and education, her philanthropic work spanned six decades. She had a lifelong interest in music; she sang and played oboe, clarinet, viola, and piano. Accordingly, much of her philanthropic work focused on music. She was instrumental in the revival and incorporation of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and she helped found the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild, serving as its first president and as a board member for many years. Among other accomplishments as president, she initiated the Symphony Guild?s annual Designer House. She was active for many years in the Arkansas Choral Society as both a singer and as its president. During her tenure as president, she helped organize the Arkansas Sesquicentennial Celebration. She was also involved in Very Special Arts (now VSA arts), serving as the Executive Director of the Arkansas affiliate organization. Her involvement in education included serving on several PTAs and PTSAs for her childrens? schools in various capacities, including as President of Little Rock Central High PTSA. She was very active for many years in the Girl Scouts. She served as a leader for several troops, and started the first racially integrated Girl Scout Troop in the area. She organized trips across the country and Mexico, and co-organized Wing Ding, an international Wider Opportunity for Girl Scouts held in Arkansas. One of her troops was awarded the Colgate Palmolive Youth Award for their work with a Girl Scout troop at the Arkansas School for the Deaf. She has also been actively involved for many years in promoting international education and exchange, including involvement in the Arkansas Council for International Visitors. Over the past three decades, her passion has been working with international exchange students and their Arkansas host families as state and regional director for several organizations. She has served as Chairman of the Board for American Cultural Exchange Service (ACES) and recently received the Cultural Ambassador Award from ACES for her many years of service in international exchange. She is survived by Don Pfeifer, their six children (Jennifer Maddox and husband Richard Maddox of Little Rock, Debbie Li and husband Yongqian Li of Bellevue, WA, Pamela Pfeifer Sutter and husband Luther Sutter of Roland, AR, Jessica Pfeifer and husband Jim Thomas, Jr., of Baltimore, MD, Paul Pfeifer and wife Tricia Pfeifer of Little Rock, and Gwen Pfeifer and husband Aaron Winborn of Harrisburg, PA), and twelve grandchildren (Patrick and Daniel Maddox, Rebecca and Elizabeth Li, Jacob, Sarah, and Anna Sutter, Zola and Silas Pfeifer-Thomas, Nathan Pfeifer, and Ashlin and Sabina Pfeifer-Winborn. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 13, at 11am at the Ruebel Funeral Home. Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild at 2417 N.
