Biography: Civic leader, Marjorie Emma Ward Jackson, of Little Rock, died on Monday, July 24, 2006. Known through out the city a Marjem, she was an Emeritus Sustainer of the Junior League of Little Rock and past president of four central Arkansas organizations: the Aesthetic Club (1956-1958); the Edelweiss Study Club (1975-1977); the Little Rock Garden Club (1981-1982); and the Colonel Dames of America in the State of Arkansas (1982-1984). She was long time board member of the Ada Thompson Home. She was the only child of Dr. Oran Douglas Ward and Myrtle Flowers Higman Ward, affectionately known as “Munnie”. They lived in England, Arkansas, where Mrs. Jackson was born on January 14, 1912. Her father was a country doctor with his office on the grounds of his home. After attending England Public Schools, she graduated from Galloway (now Hendrix) College in 1932 and married Vernon Lester Jackson, Jr. in 1934. She and her husband, who died in 1996, were one of the first residents of Cammack Village and built a home there in 1941. Raised a Methodist, after her marriage she became a member of Second Presbyterian Church for over 70 years and was the Moderator of the Second Presbyterian women in 1944-1946. She is survived by three children: a son, Vernon L. Jackson III, and wife Jody of Roland, Arkansas: a daughter, Marjem Gill, and husband John of Little Rock; and a son Douglas W. Jackson and wife Beth of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Katherine Jackson Lefler of Hot Springs, Julie Jackson Greenwood of Charlotte, North Carolina, Elizabeth Gill Myers of Ashburn, Virginia, Ward P. Gill of Rogers, Arkansas, J. David Jackson Gill of Little Rock, Douglas W. Jackson, Jr. of Little Rock, and Betsy Jackson Watkins of Dallas, Texas; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four nephews and four nieces. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Jackson’s long time caregivers, Sherri Nelson and Robbie Dickson, for their dependability, excellent care, and love of Mrs. Jackson. She was blessed to have them. There will be a visitation Tuesday, July 25th, from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed Wednesday by a graveside funeral service at 1pm at Rose Lawn Cemetery officiated by The Reverend Canon R.
