Biography: Virginia Marie Keesee Milwee, of Little Rock, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011. She was born June 11, 1939, in Lula, Mississippi. Her parents were Morris and Virginia Thompson Keesee. She grew up with her brother, Johnny. Marie attended school in nearby Clarksdale, graduating from Clarksdale High School. She went to Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, before graduating from Ole Miss in 1962. She majored in English, and her sorority was Chi Omega. After college, she taught English in Helena, Arkansas, as well as Gulf Port, Mississippi. Marie was courted by a young clergyman, Richard Milwee. They were married on November 3, 1965. Their daughter, Marion, was born in Benton, their son, John, in Pine Bluff. In 1984, they moved to Little Rock, though Marie continued to return to Pine Bluff for book club meetings, and to see her ophthalmologist and dentist. In Little Rock, she was a missionary (founding) member of St. Margaret?s Episcopal Church. She preferred traditional music and thoughtful sermons, or none at all. She entered the travel business, beginning with Poe Travel in 1985, working as a travel agent from then almost to now. She was at work Monday morning, busy and cheerful as usual, when suddenly she died. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Morris Johnson Keesee, Jr., and Virginia Thompson Keesee; by the Ven. Richard Franklin Milwee, her husband; and by Marion Milwee Kingdon, her daughter. She is survived by her son, John Bradley Milwee and his wife, Jennifer Butler Milwee; by her son-in-law, James Reynolds Kingdon; by her brother, Johnny Keesee, his wife, Fran, her niece Kathryn Keesee, great-niece, Kenzie, and great-nephew, Benjamin. Her grandchildren are: John Richard Kingdon, Virginia Howell Milwee, and Marion Fletcher Milwee. Marie remained, all her life, a woman in and of the Mississippi Delta. She would have been comfortably at home within the pages of To Kill a Mockingbird, or a Tennessee Williams story. She lived Steel Magnolias, the sorrows with the joys. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and wife. She was a faithful Christian, and a gracious, stalwart friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Margaret?s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund and the Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) at UAMS. The Service of Christian Burial will be Thursday morning, April 28, at 10:00 o?clock, at St. Margaret?s Episcopal Church, 20900 Chenal Parkway. A reception will follow at St. Margaret?s, in the Virginia Mitchell Welcome Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

Family & Friends,
You have my deepest sympathy on your loss. Marie planned just one trip for me probably just after she started at Poe, but she was excellent and I have never forgotten her. It wasn't the trip or her expertise that made her so memorable, but her smile and her joy that I'm sure came from her faith. God has taken one of his own home. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked to hear about Marie's passing. I met Marie many years ago when we worked in the same building. She's been helping me arrange incredible international travel for wish kids through the Make-A-Wish Foundation for almost a decade. She was truly a wonderful person and cared so much about what she did. She is very, very missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all her friends that loved her so much.

We were clients of Marie for many years and over that time came to appreciate her expertise and more importantly her genuine kindness and consideration for us - and surely others. We will miss her smile and the joy that she shared with us when planning our trips to wonderful places. When we travel in the future we will think of Marie and know that she is with us in spirit.

May God bless Marie's family as they address their loss for we feel their loss as well.

I was privileged to know Marie in both of my careers. She was such a terrific person to work with in the travel industry. And she certainly did appreciate an ugly tomato.
She will be greatly missed.

A dear dear friend has moved on. She will always be with me just as she was the day we met. Knowing Marie, albeit for just a few years, has truly been a high point of my life. She was a 'grande dame' of the highest order. Reserved, but could let her hair down. Stoic, but could cry. Serious, but able to laugh and giggle like a kid. Her beautiful smile and those sparkling eyes were contagious. What an honor to have known her! God speed you Homeward, my dear friend.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Marie's death. I have so many fond memories of Grace Church in Pine Bluff and the many hours I spent at the Milwee's home playing with Marion. The Milwees were a big part of my childhood & I will always cherish those times. John, you and your family are in my prayers.

I have known Marie Milwee since her time at World Wide Travel Service, and I have had the privilege to also work with her all this time. She will always be a part of my life and a part that will remain in my heart as she has shown me kindness, understanding, love as a friend and just a wonderful Christian Lady from the South. I would like to extent my Deepest Condolences to her son and the rest of her family. Sorry I am out of the country and can not be there to pay my final respects, but She will know I am there in thought and prayer. The world has been Blessed because of her and her life here on Earth.

Jerry, a dear friend and former co-worker.

Marie was a true Steel Magnolia, taking every heartbreak and bump in the road with grace and dignity, always comforting and encouraging those around her. I am so saddened by her passing, but celebrate her reunion with her husband and daughter in Paradise. She was a blessing to all who knew her, and I thank God for her presence in my life.

As one of her students in Helena, just before summer break, she wrote in my Arkansas history textbook folder "We Mississippians have learned a lot about Arkansas."

God bless and thankful for fond memories.
