Biography: Thomas P. ?Pete? Carland died in Little Rock at University Hospital on Saturday, March 26, after a long illness. Born on July 29, 1945, Pete spent his early years in Bauxite, Saline County . After 1951, he resided in Little Rock, graduating from Central High School in 1963. He attended Little Rock University and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve during the Vietnam War. Although he was a successful salesman of business forms, initially in partnership with his late father, Harold M. Carland, and then on his own, what he truly loved was playing golf, watching sports, and attending the races at Oaklawn in the company of friends. We willl miss his laid-back approach to life which he laced with a sharp wit and shrewd observations. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Allen Carland; former spouse and close friend, Diane Phillips; his brothers Robert Carland of Little Rock and John Carland of Annandale, Virginia; and three nephews, Blaise and Raphael of Northern Virginia, and Christopher of Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Tee of Arkansas, # 1 The First Tee Way, Little Rock, AR 72204. www.ruebelfuneralhome.com

For my family Pete was a major part, spending every Holiday and Birthday of our children and grandchildren at our home and loved by all.
He was the Best Friend and more than a friend; he was the Brother, Uncle and extended family member everyone enjoyed.
We will miss and remember Pete for the rest of our lives.
He always said the same thing when he would leave, "See ya". And I know we will.

May God bring you comfort and strength during this difficult time. James was a Central High classmate of Pete's and we hate to lose another friend. May God be with you all, Jaynie.

I first met Pete when he enroled in LRU,now known as UALR, in 1961. Bobbie, John and I and Mrs. Carland were already acquainted. I remember his smile, youthful enthusiasm, exuberance. Best wishes to the family at a difficult time.
