Beth Hess Taylor

Obituary Notice

Beth Hess Taylor passed away at 6:00 Thursday morning at the Woodland Hills Retirement Center. Her son, Mark, was with her and she was well attended by the nursing care staff. She is survived by Mark, his wife Gillian and daughter Rhianna, her son Byron, of Little Rock and his daughters Amanda and Claire and their mother Lynn, son Alan of San Carlos, California, his wife Angela and their children Leo and Elisa and her older sister Dorothy in Washington state.

She was born July 20, 1917 in Oklahoma City and raised there and in Wichita and Fort Scott, Kansas. Her parents were Esther Bertholf and Lee Charles Hess. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Fine Arts, and was an accomplished realistic and impressionistic painter, and sculptor. Her skills in knitting, needlepoint, cross stitch and the range of textile arts produced many, many outstanding works. A true artist, she was touched by natural beauty and helped her sons and others see the world with an artist's eye for color and composition. She rose above the challenges of the infirmities of her later life with courage, strength and dignity and was supported by dear friends Mildred Wilson, Pat Bland and Dan and Carolyn Cashman.

A service for family and close friends will be held Saturday, August 21, at 10:00 am at Second Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, Beth would wish that those who knew and loved her enjoy a piece of new art, or to revisit a piece of art in her memory.
