Susan Miriam Pfeifer
Obituary Notice
Susan Miriam Pfeifer, artist and merchant of Little Rock, died December 3,
2004. She was born in Little Rock, the youngest of three children of the late
Harry William and Raida Cohn Pfeifer and grandchildren of Harry William and
Heloise Kaufman Pfeifer and Albert Daniel and Marcuse Stifft Cohn, members of
prominent mercantile families of early Little Rock. Susan was a graduate of Dana
Hall in Massachusetts, attended the San Francisco Art Institute, Vassar College
in New York and graduated from San Francisco State College. Susan was the owner
operator of the Design Center and part owner of M.M. Cohn Company where she once
was the gifts buyer, and manager of the Oklahoma City and El Dorado stores. Her
weavings and pottery have been exhibited and are in collections throughout the
world. She was a member of the American and Contemporary Crafts Councils,
Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society and Congregation B'nai Israel and served on
the boards of and did volunteer work for the Arkansas Arts Center, Central
Arkansas Library System, UALR Friends of the Arts, Planned Parenthood, Regional
AIDS Interfaith Network, Arkansas AIDS Foundation and Friends of the Zoo.
Susan is survived by her son William Bradford Sherman and wife Christina of
Little Rock and Christina's children, Harrison Burgess and Madeline Claire Baber,
one brother Harry Donald Pfeifer of Little Rock, one sister Marcuse Lucille
Pfeifer of Kingston, New York, an aunt Rosa Pfeifer Isacson of Nashville,
Tennessee, nieces; Jennifer Maddox of Little Rock, Debbie Li of Kirkland,
Washington, Pamela Pfeifer of Little Rock, Jessica Pfeifer of Baltimore,
Maryland, and Gwen Pfeifer of Willimantic, Connecticut, nephew Paul Pfeifer of
Little Rock, three great-nephews, four great-nieces and special friends Robert
Deaton and John Leftwich. Along with her parents and grandparents, two aunts,
Miriam Cohn Phillips and Lucille Pfeifer Rosenfield, also predecease her.
There will a visitation Tuesday from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home followed
by a memorial service Wednesday at 11am at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel.

through business, but I could tell she was a very special and caring person

- I have known Susan before we were in the first grade together at Forest
Park School....I have enjoyed seeing her so often in the last years....She
always had a smile...she was always glad to see her old friends.....I just
loved her!!....I am very sad that she is no longer brightening our
lives.......I will miss her at all our future reunions and get togethers...she
was always there....

ceramics, and 5 or more ornaments for our Christmas tree each year. I know
Raida and Henrietta were thrilled to see you again; plus countless others
