Robert Winn JewellObituary NoticeRobert Winn Jewell, 83, of Little Rock, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at his home. He was born in Hope on January 25, 1921, one of four sons of the late Albert T. and Eliza Winn Jewell. He married the former Analee Rider on February 19, 1943. He served his country in World War II in the US Navy, which he entered after Pearl Harbor. He graduated from Officer Training School at Columbia University. His first ship, the U.S.S. Gwinn, was sunk in the Battle of the Soloman Strait. He transferred as a communications officer to the U.S.S. North Carolina and campaigned to the Japanese homeland waters. Mr. Jewell received his bachelor's degree from Hendrix College and was a CPA with the R. A. Lile, and Company accounting firm. He retired in 1983 from Sterling Stores and he and Analee traveled the world. Mr. Jewell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Analee Rider Jewell; a son, Byron Frank Jewell and his wife Sarah of Tappahannock, Virginia; a daughter, Linda Lee Jewell and her husband John Walsh of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Albert T. Jewell, Jr. of Fayetteville, William Horace Jewell of Little Rock; and Wilton Gray Jewell of Ft. Worth, Texas; and two grandchildren, Susanna Jewell Walsh and Patrick Jewell Walsh, both of Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home with Rev. Walter L. Smith and Rev. Louann A. Murphy officiating.
