Esra Samuel Cook
Obituary NoticeEsra Samuel Cook, age 96 of Little Rock died Tuesday. He was a member of Pulaski Heights Methodist Church and was serving as a member of the Board of Stewards at the time of his death. A 33rd degree Mason, he was a longtime active member of many Masonic organization of both the York and the Scottish rites and won highest honors for his devoted service. He retired as office manager and accountant for F. Strauss and Sons in 1982 and as accountant for Hall's Drug Store in 1990. Born on September 18, 1907, in Wiville, Arkansas, the eldest son of Esra Samuel Cook, senior, and Cora Robertson Matkin Cook. Predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Daphne Terrell Cook, brothers Wyatt, Nicholas, Ernest Bo Matkin, and Fred Cook, and by sister Katherine Cook Kincaid of Tampa, Florida. He is survived by a brother, Francis Cook of North Little Rock, daughters and sons-in-law Rose Lynette and H. Delano Black of Memphis and Mary Diane and Gerald R. Wachholz of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren Scott Neal, Dylan Black, Stacy Riebel, and Leslie Black; and by five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 26 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church with the graveside service following at 3:00 p.m. at Murfreesboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
