"As a student of Gayland at Clemson University, I remember him as a patient man with a very calm and comforting presence that was welcome in the midst of a demanding, and sometimes stressful, design cirriculum. His design work impressed me with its deep respect for the natural environment. I know his guidance has touched many students at Clemson and he will be greatly missed. I am grateful to have known Gayland and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his family."
