Obituary Notice

 

Mary Elizabeth Woolsey Whitney, age 87, of Little Rock, died Saturday, September 10, 2005. She was born in Danville, Virginia to the late Claude and Era Shores Woolsey. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas Haynes Whitney, who died in 1994, and a brother, Don Woolsey.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Haynes Whitney, Jr. and wife Gladys of Little Rock, Daughter, Debora Ann Whitney of Little Rock; brother, Larry Woolsey and wife Sue of Little Rock; grandson, Thomas Haynes Whitney, III; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was a graduate of the University of Missouri, receiving her degree in Social Work before receiving her Master’s at Tulane University. She was a Social Worker at U.A.M.S., Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and Easter Seals of Arkansas. In her active years, she served as Vice President of Family Counseling Services, President of Vassar Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, and was a member of American Association of University Women and the American Red Cross. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Little Rock, the Country Club of Little Rock, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief, or CARE for Animals.
