Obituary Notice

Eugene Newsom, 92, of Little Rock died Monday, March 8, 2004. He was born August 19, 1911 in Paragould to the late Gene and Helen Donaldson Newsom. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jamie W. Newsom, in August 2000.

Mr. Newsom was a U.S. Army Signal Corp Officer in World War II and had extensive experience in code breaking during that conflict. He returned to Little Rock after the war and operated Mid-South Opinion Surveys, doing political polls for several governors and congressmen in Arkansas politics. He maintained an active interest in farming throughout his life. He had a life-long love for fine literature and classical music and passed that on to his family. He was also an author with numerous magazine articles to his credit.

He is survived by two sons, Philip Newsom and his wife Susan of Memphis, TN, Gene Newsom of Little Rock; and two grandchildren, Jaime and Emily Newsom.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould at 3:00 p.m.
