Obituary Notice

Clayton John Wells, age 83, consulting Geologist and long time resident of Little Rock, died Saturday, December 13, 2003. Mr. Wells was a graduate of Mississippi State University, a registered professional geologist and former District Geologist of the Little Rock District Corps of Engineers. He was involved in the siting, explorations, and development of rock foundations of most of the dams White and Arkansas Rivers. As a consulting Geologist, after retirement form the Corp of Engineers, he performed foundation and safety inspections of new federal dams throughout Arkansas Missouri and Oklahoma. He was a member of the American Society of Engineering Geologists, a member of Registered Professional Geologists, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was a retired Major in the Army Reserves, and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star for combat action as a platoon commander.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Wells He is survived by two sons; Phillip John Wells of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Clayton Craig Wells of Tulsa, Oklahoma, four grandchildren; Patrick and Adam Wells of Little Rock, and Kevin Wells of Minneapolis , MN and Robert Wells of Jonesboro.

There will be a visitation at Ruebel Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Patrick Murray officiating. Burial will follow services with full military honors at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery.
