Obituary Notice

Norma C. Thompson, passed away in a Little Rock nursing home on Friday, March 16, 2001 five days shy of her 85th birthday. She was a life long resident of Marked Tree and Poinsett County until moving to Little Rock in 1995 to be near her family in the later years of her life. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Little Rock. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of over forty-five years, W. H. (Bill) Thompson, who, at the time of his death in 1981, was the senior member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, having been first elected to the House from Poinsett County in 1953. In a special election called to fill the vacancy created by his death, Mrs. Thompson was elected to the House in 1981 to serve the remainder of Mr. Thompson's term through 1982. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, an avid reader, enjoyed travelling here and abroad and visiting her grandchildren. 

She is survived by three sons, William Powell (Bill) Thompson and his wife Marianne of Fort Smith, AR Michael Greenwood Thompson and his wife, Suzanne of New Orleans, LA and Charles Nicholas (Nick) Thompson and his wife Mary of Little Rock and two daughters, Nancy Marie Herdlinger and her husband David of Sea Island, GA and Janet Pierce Berry of Dallas, TX. A third son, Norman Patrick Thompson, preceded her in death in 1977. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Marked Tree Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, or Arkansas Hospice, Bldg. 66 R.65, 2200 Ft. Roots Dr., N. Little Rock, AR 72114.
