Obituary Notice

Ellen House Simpson, 85, of Little Rock, died Thursday, February 01, 2001. She was born in Little Rock the daughter of the late Joseph Warren and Julia Clarke House. She attended Gulf Park Prep School in Gulf Park, Mississippi before completing her senior year at The National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. She then attended Finch Junior College in New York City before enrolling at George Washington University in Washington. After her schooling, she returned to Little Rock in 1938 and married James Daniel Simpson, Jr. Mrs. Simpson was very active at her church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where she was a member since her childhood. She was also a past member of the Little Rock Junior League, the Asthetic Club, Little Rock Garden Club and the Country Club of Little Rock. She was the great-granddaughter of James P. Clarke, Senior Senator from Arkansas and President Pro-Tem of the United States Senate during the Presidency of Woodrow Wilson.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband James D. Simpson, Jr. of Little Rock, two sons J. D. Simpson, III and his wife Ginna, Warren Simpson and his wife Leslie, all of Little Rock, three grandchildren Ellen Garrett Simpson, Jody Simpson Thompson, Clarke Simpson Delp, two great-grandchildren James Russell Thompson and Joseph Townes Delp, and a first cousin Mrs. Everett (Francis) Tucker of Little Rock.

There will be a funeral service Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging, P.O. Box 4301 West Markham Street, Slot 748, Little Rock 72205, or Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
